This is a printed list, in two columns, of various brand names of alcohol, some printed in bold, many in different fonts. Amongst the alcohol, "Beurre et Fromages des Alpes" is also listed, as well as "Pétrole, Sel, Farines, Cafés". All of these products were available at "Roussel et Coste" in Constantine. I love coming across lists of the alcohol available in #ColonialAlgeria. This here is an advertisement in "Les Clochettes Algériennes et Tunisiennes" from 1902. There are some Algerian products - like "Anisette Gras" - but most are imported from France! #FrenchColonialism #DrinkingStudies 🗃️🍸

It is astonishing how widespread & omnipresent #ColonialAdverts for (French) alcohol were in the cities of #ColonialAlgeria. Here is a photograph showing an advert for the apéritif "Amer Picon" on a tram in Algiers in 1920. #DrinkingStudies #FrenchColonialism #AlcoholInIslam 🗃️🍸
