This cascading waterfall can be found on the trail up to Hanging Lake in Colorado. One of a few places where the drainage from Hanging Lake creates a lovely cascade. Make no mistake, folks, this hike is not for those who enjoy an easy stroll, and the last hundred yards or so might scare the britches off of you. However, it's safe, and the view once you get past the staircase is nothing short of amazing.
A small section of the Grottos over the top of Independence Pass, near Aspen, CO. Created by glacial flow a few years back, this area is stunning in its scope and beauty. A very short hike reveals many wonders on the way to the waterfalls, and once you reach the top, you can hear the falls calling you by name. Whether you go in the summer or winter (it does close in the dead of winter), you'll find something that will take your breath away. Cascades, roaring water, blue/green mineral content on the river bottom, to ice caves that form in the winter.... this place offers some splendid locations to just sit back and do nothing but stare in awe at the amazing job nature has done here.
Found at the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride, CO., this creek releases just the right amount of water to keep the pond full at the base of the falls. Many times during the year, this location will have two giant waterfalls that make it double epic (if that can be a thing). There is a trail leading up the side of the mountain, and for the rest of us, there is a road (4x4 would be best) that will take you this far, but beyond this bend in the road...it's one way, and you're not going that way. One can go over the top and come down Black Bear Road, but I wouldn't recommend that to anyone with a fear of heights, steep roads, switchbacks, driving through creeks, things that are high on the list of things that suck, but if you have the skills and proper vehicle....it's a mind blowing expedition. If you're into old mining history or vistas of the San Juan Mountains that you just can't find anywhere else....this is your jam!!
