An amazing count of 58 Avocets on the #Blyth estuary this morning beating previous site record of 44. At least 2 #ColourRinged birds and yellow flagged 7L which has returned from the Aln Estuary.

Back to normal on the #Blyth estuary after all the White-Billed Diver shenanigans. 4 decent #ColourRinged birds this week already.
Teesmouth Shelduck for 4th year, Cumbrian Avocet for 3rd year and a couple of Scottish ringed Shags for their 6th years .
Picturesque innit 🤪

#ColourRinged Avocet (Yellow Flag 7L) has returned to the #Blyth Estuary for a 3rd consecutive year. See this morning in a flock of 17 birds just below Mount Pleasant farm.

Nice self found White-billed Diver at #Blyth South Harbour this morning whilst out bagging a few #ColourRinged Shags. #NEbirding @ntbirdclub.bsky.social
BTO right, Darvics on left 👍. We’ve had 7 #ColourRinged Shags today on #Blyth East Pier in Northumberland today. At least 3 known Isle of May birds, a @bardseybirdobs.bsky.social bird which first appeared in autumn 2024 and 3 completely new birds. Feeding incredibly tough for them at the moment .
After a quiet winter with only 3 #ColourRinged Shags on #Blyth East Pier it’s fair to they’ve been on the move. Tonight’s roost held 7 birds including 3 Isle of May birds, with Green ARX, ringed 2014 back for another winter. 2 new birds included Yellow 8F8. Any ideas @josiethebirder.bsky.social ?
Adult Black-headed Gull standing on the edge of water. Wearing a dark blue ring on left leg with letters 2X88. Small silver ring on right leg.
Adult Black-headed Gull standing on a post. Wearing a dark blue ring on left leg with letters 2B26. Small silver ring on right leg.
More #colourringed birds. 2 Black-headed Gulls seen on Derwent Water, Keswick #Cumbria. Both ringed locally in winter I think.

Well just like that, it’s October and after 2 blank visits the first #ColourRinged Shag is back on #Blyth East Pier. However, I wasn’t expecting it to be Red BBVE, last year’s @bardseybirdobs.bsky.social juvenile ringed at Tornado Ledge on 8/7/24. I wonder where it’s been since April ?

125 Cormorants at the #Blyth East Pier roost tonight and first 2 Shags of the autumn put in a brief appearance. Should be starting to pick up some of the regular #ColourRinged wintering birds soon.

First couple of fly past sightings of #ColourRinged birds at Seaton Sluice at the weekend so we should be picking a few up at the Blyth East Pier roost soon.
After staying on the #Blyth Estuary between 9th and 14th May #ColourRinged Shelduck (Orange AM) was relocated at Thutaston Shore on the Dee Estuary, Wirral on 18th June.

Yet another playing hard to get #ColourRinged Common Tern at North #Blyth staithes today. Possibly Yellow 2.71 which would make it another #Teesmouth bird but need a nice still day to get a better look. #NEBirding @ntbirdclub.bsky.social

Cooperative @teesbirds.bsky.social #ColourRinged Shelduck ( Blue DV ) playing ball on the #Blyth Estuary . Meanwhile ( Yellow F / Red X ) from @ldvnnr.bsky.social being camera shy 🙈 at Castle Island on the River #Wansbeck today.

First #ColourRinged Common Tern of the year at North #Blyth yesterday. A combination of distance, heat haze & windy conditions meant this was the best we could get. Probably Black 770 but down as a work in progress at the moment.

Managed to get a read of this #ColourRinged Black-headed Gull on the #Blyth Estuary yesterday. Red 2NV5 is a new one for me and waiting to hear back on origin. Suspect it’s another of the Falkirk birds we get. Still haven’t pinned down the similarly ringed adult yet.

I’ve got those #Blyth Estuary #ColourRinged Shelducks well trained now. Lime TS present today ✅

A second #ColourRinged Avocet of the day on the #Blyth Estuary. Yellow 7L was also present during April 2024. Originally ringed in Cumbria on 10/6/21 it has also been reported in Essex, Dumfries & Galloway and Lancashire. #NEbirding

After a pretty non-productive birding day it was a final roll of the dice to look for a wheatear or 2 at Blyth South Harbour. Totally failed but as I walked away I was treated to a fly past by @bardseybirdobs.bsky.social #ColourRinged Shag (Red BBVE) which promptly landed on the jetty. #NEbirding
