The artist's intent with using the wind turbine as a 'turnpike' is to show that "now #ColumbiaPikeVA is always open" to everyone. 👏
Artist Donald Lipski: "#ColumbiaPikeVA was created as a toll road with a 'pike' blocking the road until travellers paid a fee... One day I saw a wind turbine on the back of a truck and thought it was such a beautiful thing. It stuck in my mind and I wanted to use it somehow."
