A stunning deep-sky image of spiral galaxy NGC 4651, also known as the Umbrella Galaxy. The bright disk of the galaxy is surrounded by a faint, umbrella-shaped arc of stars—a tidal stream resulting from the disruption of a smaller satellite galaxy. The arc extends far above the galactic disk, curving gracefully like a handle and canopy. Countless background stars and faint galaxies are scattered throughout the dark field of space.
