Okahandja to formalise informal settlements The Okahandja municipality on Saturday announced its plan to formalise the Oshetu, Ekunde and Five Rand informal settlements in the town this year. Mayor Beatrice Kotungondo announced the plan on Saturday morning during a community meeting held with the residents of Oshetu No. 1, 2 and 3. The mayor explained that a land surveying exercise in the Oshetu, Ekunde and Five Rand informal areas at Okahandja will begin on 7 April and continue until June this year. “Once the planned land surveying is completed on Oshetu, Ekunde and Five Rand, then the municipality will issue out certificates of plot ownership to the residents,” said Kotungondo. A total of 5 000 residential and business plots across all three townships are expected to be surveyed and properly demarcated by the town’s surveyors, she said. “This flexible land tenure development programme of the Okahandja municipality includes the channelling of clean drinking water, roads and electricity connections to the areas,” said Kotungondo The post Okahandja to formalise informal settlements appeared first on The Namibian.
