This was very close, too close, to being a catastrophic multi-fatal incident.
Flats do not routinely have a fire alarm system covering the common areas, meaning a fire can develop there undetected providing there's something that will burn when ignited.

It's a serious problem internationally, another serious multi-fatality incident is inevitable.
Rescues are good, but I do worry when fire services celebrate buildings failing, like this. Happens a lot here, too.
