The #CompromiseOf1877, #ThisDayInHistory in 1877, may have flipped the 1876 presidential election. #SamuelTilden (D) was one vote short. The #Reconstruction admins in SC, LA, & FL gave the win to #RutherfordBHayes (R), aka 'Rutherfraud', in exchange for removing federal troops.
Without the soldiers to keep the peace, #CompromiseOf1877 also started what would become the era of #JimCrow. This era was marked by widespread State sanctioned and imposed violence, forced poverty and voter suppression against African Americans.
