Your next few weeks in events: It’s getting cold, but events are heating up
Learn something, be somewhere or take some time to unwind this autumn.
The dropping temperatures are not a sign for you to lock yourself up this week when you could be out there looking at art, watching a foreign film, talking art, listening to music under the stars, squatting till you drop, reading a new book or attending workshops.
Today
The Ibero American Film Festival is currently taking place till 9 July at Maerua Mall Ster Kinekor. Entry is free for several foreign film screenings.
‘The Caring Namibian Man’ photo exhibition retrospective will launch this evening at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre from 18h00. On 11 June there will be an art talk, and on 26 June the closing ceremony at the same time. Entry is free.
This Weekend
The Stratos Ballroom at Avani is hosting a Concert Under The Stars this Friday, featuring violinist Ronaldo and Friends, Yeezir, the Atlantic String Quartet and more from 19h00. Entry is N$300 and the dress code is semi-formal.
Garnish Swakopmund is turning 10 this year and they are celebrating from Friday to Sunday. Come through for the best of their Indian menu.
On 7 June, South African fitness instructor Nkululeko Dlamini will be in town for the ‘King of Squats Invades Windhoek’ workout event at Eros Sports Field. Limited tickets are N$200, and the day will start at 06h00 with a 5km fun walk. Other activities will be the DJ Hype session, stretching and the main King of Squats routine.
Novel Motor Company Ford is hosting a Women’s Fun Day on Saturday at Walvis Bay. It will include DIY lessons on how to change a tyre, refill wiper fluid, do an oil check and identify warning lights. For more information and to RSVP, call 064 203 411.
Saturday morning will be busy, with an interactive poetry masterclass taking place at the Goethe-Insitut in Windhoek. Learn writing and publishing tips, marketing your poetry and get branding information from established Namibian poets. Entry is N$50 per person for the 09h00 to 16h00 gathering.
There will be another workshop, a Theory of Music and Practical Musicianship, by Sean Adams of the Directorate of Music at Unisa. The session starts at 09h00 and will run till 17h00 at the College of the Arts town campus. Entry is free.
On Saturday afternoon come through for the maiden launch of Petrina Ndapanda Mathews’ book ‘Driving Through Life: A Christian Guide From Driving Lessons’ at Et Cetera. Entry is N$50 from 16h00.
The Ells will be performing live at Goodfellas Pizza & Pub in Lilliencron Street from 17h00 on Saturday. Entry is free.
Next Week
It’s boxing night at Oshakati Stadium on 14 June. Catch ‘Bizza’ and ‘Van Die Kamp’ in the ring from 18h00. Tickets are N$100 in advance and N$150 at the gate.

Whispers of Wellness is hosting Rise and Align yoga classes taking place every Monday and Wednesday between 06h00 and 07h00 at The Yoga Shala at Maerua Mall Lifestyle Centre. It will cost N$130 to drop in for one class and N$100 per class for Shala members.
MTC Windhoek Go Karts is hosting Karaoke Night every Thursday between 18h00 and 22h00. Entry is free and happy hour is between 19h00 and 20h00.
Beyond
South African actress and media mogul Connie Ferguson is coming to Windhoek as a guest speaker at the FNB, City of Windhoek Business Summit on 5 July at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel. There will be panel discussions by representatives from various Namibian corporations and small and medium enterprises, and corporate stalls from 16h00. General tickets are going for N$390 and VIP tickets are N$990.
