Looking for Corn Buntings & other farmland birds with Wendy Chamberlain MP. The wild bird seed plots grown by farmers in the East Neuk of Fife - like this plot at Bowhouse on the Balcaskie Estate, are an important factor in the recovery of Corn Buntings in Fife. The WBS plots are sown with a mix of cereals & pollinator-friendly wildflowers. They provide nesting sites for Corn Buntings, nectar & pollen-rich flowers for pollinators, lots of insects to support chicks, and importantly lots of seed to keep impressive big flocks of finches & buntings alive during winter.

Wild bird seed plot full of cereals & wildflowers. The mix of cereals including Oats, Barley and Triticale drop at different points during the winter- so provide a steady supply of seed & some shelter for farmland birds in winter when there’s often not much available in the surrounding landscape.
Lovely visit to Bowhouse Farmers Market at St Monans to see #CornBuntings with Wendy Chamberlain MP. Good chat about the need to increase support for farmers delivering for nature. RSPB has worked with farmers to develop workable solutions 🌾🌼that are helping reverse Corn Bunting declines👍🏼🌾🐦🌾🐦🌾🐦🚜

Wonderful day at #MartinDownNR. No Turtle Dove tho. Plenty of #Yammers, #Whitethroats, #Skylarks & #CornBuntings. #Cuckoo calling regularly! Thousands of #Orchids and lots of #Butterflies. No Adonis Blue that I could see, or Fritillaries yet.
