A battlefield month of May in 1643. Royalist [90 Dead] 2400 foot-500 horse-8guns fought 5400 foot-200 horse-13 guns Parliamentarians [300 Dead - 1700 captured]. Quite the battle, 11 hours of close combat on this hill, against all odds the underdog victorious. On my walks I spare a thought for those that lost their lives, entrenched in regime and riot, echoes now quiet, sunken in sodden earth casket fated to supply flora and fauna in violent end.
