For anyone with ancestors in the Chesterfield Borough Police, our latest #NewAccession are 3 pay books from 1918–1920. They list rank, name and pay — a brilliant resource for family historians. We’re just not sure what all the postage stamps mean… any ideas?

Our latest #NewAccession is a photo of an art class at Barrow Hill Infants in 1935. The teacher is Alice Johnson. Born in Clay Cross, she studied at Cambridge. After teaching at Clay Cross County Secondary School, Alice was headteacher at Barrow Hill between 1930 and 1950.

Noting down and passing on family recipes is nothing new: our latest #NewAccession is an 1816 notebook titled “Recipes", possibly by Phillip Hall from Swanwick Grange in Alfreton. It even contains recipes for natural remedies to treat things like coughs.

Our latest #NewAccession is the recipe book of Fred Croft, apprentice baker at Wrigley and Son, confectioners, Matlock. Fred took it to France whilst serving during the First World War. It was returned to his family after Fred was killed at the Battle of the Somme.

Our latest #NewAccession are deeds for a dwellinghouse in Buxton. They begin in 1829; later the property becomes known as 17 & 19 Spring Gardens, then The Hardwick Hotel in the #1970s. This was demolished to allow access to the Springs Shopping Centre.

Our latest #NewAccession is an 8 April 1779 release for a house on St John’s Street, Ashbourne — once home to John Howard.
The deed records a transfer from Dorothy Bower (widow), her sons Edward and Joseph, to John Goodwin, Gentleman of Ashbourne.

Our latest #NewAccession is a digital copy of a map of Middle Peak & Stoneycroft quarries, produced when Stanton Ironworks Co Ltd took 50% ownership from Bowne & Shaw Ltd in the 1920s. The Wirksworth firm traded in ironstone & limestone. The original plan is thought to have been destroyed.

The latest 'Re-Discovering Hope' report is our #NewAccession. It features an article on the paintings of Moses and Aaron in the church. These works are usually hidden beneath layers of varnish and dirt, but thanks to digital enhancement, you can now see them in all their glory!

Our #NewAccession is a diary of William Green, servant to Hugh Seymour Blane of The Pastures, Mickleover, Derby. This entry is from 24th Dec 1868 when Sir Seymour and Lady Blane saw the Christmas decorations at the County Asylum. The housekeeper's gift was sherry, the servants had rum.

Our latest #NewAccession is an addition to the papers of the Swanwick family of Whittington near Chesterfield. Eric Drayton Swanwick was an officer in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham & Derbyshire Regiment) during the #FirstWorldWar. He was also active in the Scouting movement.

The Matlock Athletic Union Colours badge is the lower of the two. On the right of the image, the green college tie has diagonal white pinstripes running from right to left. There are two college crests between each pinstripe.

Our latest #NewAccession is something a little unusual: a tie, blazer badge and Athletic Union Colours Award badge from Matlock College of Education (1946-1986). These objects from the teacher training institution date from c1962.

Last month we collected our latest #NewAccession, over 70 boxes from Shipton Hallewell & Company, Chesterfield solicitors. Established in 1756, the firm’s archive spans centuries of fascinating documents about Chesterfield and its surroundings. Visiting their beautiful office was a real privilege!

Our latest #NewAccession are photos of the Enthoven and Sons factory, Darley Dale, in the #1980s. Acquired from a London-based firm in 1941 parent company Billiton UK Ltd redeveloped the site to provide melting, smelting and refining facilities for recycling lead.

Our latest #NewAccession is a little book of rules for Ilkeston Co-operative Society from 1958. The Coop in Ilkeston started as a little shop in Bath St in the late 19th century later moving to a larger shop on the Market Place.

Our latest #NewAccession arrived last week, a book of songs by Ian Carter called 'Songs I'm Quite Fond Of'. Ian was a music and languages teacher, musician, singer and barn dance caller. He was author of a collection of folk songs, some of which can be found in this book.

This delightful #NewAccession, including oil paintings, woodcuts and sketchbooks, is an addition to our existing John R Biggs archive. Biggs was an illustrator and printer, born in Derby in 1909, who worked in the UK, Russia and Jamaica.

Our latest #NewAccession are the regimental badge and dog tag of Charles William Coupe of Higham. Marrying Ann Bunting in June 1915, he enlisted into #WW1 on 8 December 1915. He was killed in action in October 1917.

Amongst a #NewAccession for George F. Kirk & Sons, builders of #Chesterfield, we found some lovely colour plans of Chesterfield Town Hall which was built in the 1930s.

The outer leaves contain the inscription 'To My Dear Sweetheart'. The centre leaf contains a sketch of the Cape Fold Mountain range, with Table Mountain at the centre.

Our latest #NewAccession shows that despite being nearly 100 miles away the sea must have called to 16 year old Maurice Sutton of Derby. He signed as an apprentice with shipping company Furness Withy in 1919. The indenture states he met their ‘entire satisfaction’. Life at sea must have suited him!

Today’s #NewAccession are papers of the Elliotts of Rowsley, later Bakewell; and John Henry Boam, garage owner, Heanor who married Hilda, daughter of James & Ellen Elliott of Sherwood House, Bakewell. They had several children, including James, who died in action in Oct 1918.

Our latest #NewAccession is a lovely addition to our collection for the Parish or Fairfield, Buxton. Amongst the papers are early parish magazines from the late 1880s. They are a wonderful snippet of community life.

Our latest #NewAccession is a promo leaflet for the Glenorchy Youth/Conference Centre in #Wirksworth. It's managed by the local United Reformed Church and named after a Chapel taken over by Lady Glenorchy, a Scottish noble woman who visited Matlock Bath, to ‘take the waters’.
