I'm enjoying #CountryMusicPBS, but there's a part of me that wishes there was a Kenneth Anger*-type version for those who'd like to know more about scandals that aren't mentioned, are merely suggested, or are described briefly as possible.

*Some Anger claims have been debunked.

If Vince Gill, who grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, was 10 years younger, maybe he would've joined the Flaming Lips instead of Mountain Smoke.

Probably not, but he sure had the look. #CountryMusicPBS

The section about Kristofferson in #CountryMusicPBS reminds me that there's no lyric I've thought about more than "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose." Mom had the 1971 version of Kristofferson's debut, so I can't recall a time that song wasn't part of my life.

Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is still just as breathtaking as ever, huh? What a beautiful place to bring this #CountryMusicPBS story to an end, too, circling back to the progenitors in the Carter Family.

Rodney Crowell, over "Achy Breaky Heart" in what I believe is a bit of #CountryMusicPBS snark: "Expectations became part of the creative decision-making. That means that the record companies' bottom line had... www.facebook.com/chip.chandler1/posts/101...

All the Garth stuff on #CountryMusicPBS brings back happy memories of college, when it seems like I drove around Weatherford all the time just to listen to his latest cassette. (Stop looking at me like that.)

"I love strong women tellin' stories, and I think in country music, especially at that time, if you want to look for super-strong women telling really amazing stories, you went to country." If only that were still true on mainstream country radio today. #CountryMusicPBS

OK, the George Strait section was *much* shorter than I would have ever expected, but at least we got to hear "Amarillo by Morning," right? #CountryMusicPBS

"In all things country music, we see a response: How far are they going to take country music? Well, it'll come back around again. It's always reminding itself who it is, and the old ghosts are always rising up and refusing to be cast aside." β€” Ketch Secor #CountryMusicPBS

Oh Possum, this segment is brutal. But the story of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" β€” "the epitome of a country song," as Jeannie Seely wisely puts it β€” is so, so powerful. And unexpectedly funny. #CountryMusicPBS

"She's crossed all boundaries. Dolly's not country. Dolly's not rock. Dolly's not pop. Dolly's everything. And everybody from every genre loves her."

You're abso-friggin-lutely right, Brenda Lee.

Dolly. Is. Everything. #CountryMusicPBS

Besides introducing me to Hazel Smith, the love of my life, I'm grateful that #CountryMusicPBS has reminded me how truly, madly, deeply I love @RosanneCash. I need to make my way through her dad's list of 100 essential songs, too.

I never knew about Hank Jr.'s early career and momma Audrey's, um, death grip on it. It's creepy as hell that she booked him to play in Canton, Ohio, on a New Year's Day exactly 11 years after his dad died on his way there. #CountryMusicPBS

The eternally delightful Hazel Smith again: "They wanted their music to sound on record like it sounded when they stood on the stage and sung it. That's all it was about." #CountryMusicPBS

"When I became a convert to country music β€” there's no other word for it. I became obnoxious trying to get people to listen to everything."

Same, Emmylou Harris. Same. #CountryMusicPBS
