Until we purge it, we will continue to pay the price of racism, bigotry, and misogyny handed down in the rulings of judges and justices who have not only enabled it but, in many cases, reveled in it. The systemic nature of these scourges is sustained only because of those on the bench.

The surge in debt-collection lawsuits is creating a crisis for unrepresented defendants, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities and leading to alarming default rates.

Bill would let courts order parents into services at shelter‑care hearings; supporters say it keeps children safe, opponents warn of service gaps Senate Bill 6,308 would permit courts to order parents of young children released at shelter‑care hearings to participate in services or evaluations necessary to maintain safety in the home, and prevent those conditions being used as admissions of abuse at fact‑finding; proponents say it preserves children safely at home, opponents and in‑home providers say services and access are insufficient.

A new bill could change the landscape of child safety in Washington by allowing courts to mandate parental participation in services during shelter-care hearings, but will it provide the protection kids need?

If I had to choose between a jury and a judge my first response would be to go for a professional judge.

Then I’d remember that 62% of senior judges are public school and privileged.

Nah. Better to take my chances with a jury of ordinary people who live in Normal Street.

We need Supreme Court reform. The Constitution says justices serve during good behavior. It does not define what that means. Congress should pass reform, and if SCOTUS rules against it, that should trigger expansion of the court. Congress has clear power to expand the court.
