The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

Thank goodness AmDram restores my theatrical equilibrium.
Directed by the two people that directed me in my last show, I made quite a trek to show support and saw a quite brilliant show.

A Mirrored Monet

Got a reasonably priced ticket for a show that interested me. Sadly this was kind of one-paced with pretty but fairly mundane songs. Actors were good but plot and script trudged.

The Authenticator

Interesting play about two history professors investigating some new found ledgers detailing slave trade in Jamaica. Had some gothic horror moments as well as humour, and the actors were great. Didn’t quite gel for me though.

You Stupid Darkness

On paper this would be filed under ‘Not My Thing’. (Dystopia) I went to see it to support a friend and thought it was brilliant. Well crafted play imagining a world hit by catastrophe. Four brilliant actors too.

Summerfolk

A Gorky play written in 1905 and the foreshadowing of the 1917 Russian Revolution is stark.
Beautiful staging and some good acting, but the play was long. I was pleasantly surprised that it was funny, expecting more gloom.

Deep Azure

Incredible play with an astounding cast.
This was written by the late Chadwick Boseman and it shows how great he was. Lyrical, touching, funny and … just so good to watch.
Modern Shakespeare with a deft touch.

Managed to snaffle one of the last tickets of the run the morning of!

Another great show.
This was so clever and interesting too. Loved the staging and the plot and the cast were fab.

Our Town

This was so good. Michael Sheen is outstanding as the ‘stage manager’ telling the tale of a small town in the early 1900’s. Strong ensemble cast too.

Shadowlands

Great performances and interactions, although the play is a little ponderous for me. Hugh Bonneville was excellent in the lead role.

Absurd plot line but this was so much fun. Great night watching and listening to a talented cast belt out Queen songs.

Titanique

Retelling of Titanic with ‘Celine Dion’ Quite brilliant in its ridiculousness and everyone gave their all. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Vocals were superb especially from Astrid Harris as Dion and Madison Swann as Molly.
Strong rec

Great performances from the actors; their movement was amazing and I loved the staging. A little overlong in the first act although the pace picked up in the second act.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry

This was rather whimsical and touching. Jenna Russell was very good in the role of the wife left behind. The darker edge running through the show crept up on me. Great performances and staging

Man & Boy

After seeing and then being in a Rattigan play, I couldn’t resist this one especially as it started Ben Daniels, whom I’d seen in Medea. He has such stage presence. Laurie Kynastan was great too. Play is dark and demands your focus.

Puss In Boots

Local Panto. Real community feel, which is maybe what Panto should be. It was fun, but at the same time it was a touch overlong. Should be said I had a rotten headache and the room was stuffy so I wasn’t at my appreciative best.

I’m Sorry, Prime Minister

Fun and worthy sequel to the Yes, Minister canon.
This was the first night so pacing a little off. Script and performances were great. Interesting to see Hacker and Humphrey adjust to the modern world

Third time seeing this show and it never fails to move me. Love the music, love the songs and love the energy. We were also incredibly pleased to have been given an upgrade from our Balcony seats to front row Dress Circle 🎉🎉🎉

Josh Johnson: the Flowers Tour
I watched a lot of Josh’s reels last year, missed out on a ticket when he first came over and snapped one up when he returned. Hugely funny!
Warm up act was Sarah Keyworth who I’d seen on House of Games. Also very funny! One to watch.

I’ve read all his Vinyl Detective books and Paperback Sleuth so thought I’d probably enjoy this.
I was right! It was a fun farce and I laughed out loud several times.

Marvellous show at the Barbican and a great view. Whilst a fairly conventional production, it did introduce some darker elements particularly with Sir Toby.

High Noon

Good acting and story is good. Felt the tension wane in parts but held at the end. The Bruce Springsteen song was a surprise and it fitted the atmosphere but it felt too contemporary.
