Pepperwood Preserve sits on the traditional homeland of the Wappo people, who conducted #culturalburns for thousands of years. Today, the goal is to “make the landscape look as it did under Wappo stewardship,” says Devyn Freidel, who manages the preserve. “We need to put fire on the ground.”
