The Toronto Porter who helped get my cats and luggage out to the car. This is what I escaped with. I left 23 years of life in Taiwan with this to show for it

The woman who helped me get out in Taiwan. She checked my cats in and then she checked me in.

It has been two months since I fled my abusive marriage in Taiwan in my manual wheelchair with my cats in cargo. Today is #DisabilityDayOfMourning. Although I do not feel lucky, I know I have my life and my cats. I will never let anyone block access to safety, care & food ever again.

Please take a moment today to remember the disabled people murdered by the very people who should have been loving, nurturing, and protecting them.
It's devastating and almost overwhelming to even think about but we must NEVER forget.

Since 2020 it's become a personal tradition for me each year to bear witness to those who died at the hands of caregivers since last year's #DisabilityDayOfMourning. It started on twitter and since moving here I've kept it up.

Despite everything else going on, I haven't forgotten.

The title reads: "What does the Disability Day of Mourning mean to you?" The content states: "Disability Day of Mourning is a day of reflection. Reflecting on personal privilege; geographic location, healthcare access, social support, physical safety, and more. There are so many aspects of daily life that, if ignored, can be fatal for disabled people. As disabled people who have privileges and supports, we cannot take them for granted. Instead, we must advocate for such support to be universal."

The title reads: "Why is disability important to think about when doing policy work?" The content states: "Disability is important to think about when doing policy work because disability fundamentally alters how people navigate society, so we must consider how any given policy can and does uniquely impact disabled people. Moreover, disability can affect anyone — and to any extent — during any stage of their life, so meaningful policy work must consider disability."

Here are a few heartfelt testimonials shared during the gathering, reflecting on the importance of remembrance, and the need to center disability in all aspects of our lives.

Worth your time.

"...however difficult it may be for families to support their disabled loved ones, murder is never excusable. There are always other options. Always."

Thank you, Shannon, for keeping it real without falling into tragedy and self pity.

Well this was an unambiguous result. I am channelling my despair into finishing my #DDoM poem. If it's done in time, we'll go with that (though I have to try to get it down to three minutes). twitter.com/FionasWriting/status/151...

Might actually finish the #DDoM poem I couldn't bear to finish in time for the memorial.

In a sense, those that seek a #LinkedData #API for #javascript and other languages, I guess #DDOM is really the goal :-)

#DOM model documents (data containers) doesn't really have the granularity of #DDOM (Distributed Data Objects) re. graph inside container.

#DOM (Document Object Model) acronym skews path 2 #LinkedData so I suggest #DDOM (Distributed Data Object Model) - Da da da dum (Beethoven)
