@FreerMary beautiful talk, Mary! Reminded me very much of this quote, one of my favourites:
#DFTB24
“Stories are the communal currency of humanity.” - Devon Murphy-Davids #DFTB24
Perhaps the most controversial part of #DFTB24 thus far… #scones #jamfirst #whyareyouevenasking
Shout out to @tisheewoods by Callum Gately at #DFTB24 - “the neonatal lung ultrasound guru”!
If you are in #neonatology, consider this online ultrasound resource: https://www.asum.com.au/neonatal/
“How do we know what to do when we move hospital and the guidelines are different?”
- find your zen. Generally the evidence differences aren’t huge and it’s not worth stressing over too much!
- find a national guideline if you can
#DFTB24
Good Q from the floor to @emlitofnote - how can we appraise what we see in the #FOAMed space?
- post-publication peer review is a thing!
- no reliable ranking of resources so use your brain
- be skeptic of everything, even if you hear it on @TheSGEM 😉
#DFTB24
Always important to remind people of this at every conference #dftb24
How to ask questions at conferences

Just as in adults, psychosocial consequences of traumatic injuries are being better recognised in paediatric patients, with screening of QOL and PTSD symptoms helping to identify those who might benefit from education and support.
Kate Trenoweth - #DFTB24
One of the major challenges of the ANZ major trauma registry is that some life changing injuries (eg single limb amputation) don’t generate an ISS>15, so aren’t captured.
Flagging “significant” trauma can help us to also understand these cases.
Kate Trenoweth - #DFTB24
Stark reflections on adolescent mental health from Cat Levine & Lexi Day -
“I had to go to the Emergency Department to get the help I needed.”
Responding to people in mental health crisis remains a massive challenge for all of healthcare, and one we are failing.
#DFTB24
“Can you fit the system around the most vulnerable?
What are the barriers - how can they be minimised or even removed?
What tools do you have and how can you use them for the greatest impact?”
- Mikaele Tu-u on inequality in education (and by extension, healthcare) #dftb24
Challenging and inspiring talk by Mikaele Tu-u on flexible and compassionate approaches to schooling and education.
“When you consider your most vulnerable [patient groups], is what you are expecting of them meeting the realities of your situation?”
#dftb24
Update - about 9hrs work completed so far. First draft in existence (but much work still to do). Presenting a rough version next week at @SydneyHEMS education day then will start honing the content. #HTDAP #DFTB24
