Traffic is one of those bands that doesn't get much mention when early 70s music is talked about and played. That's a shame. They were good and a bit less predictable, whichisalwayssomething that I like. RIP Dave Mason. #DailyBudTunes

Watched a little YT over lunch. It popped up Lee Baker, then the Rhythm Aces. That's it, yall. I'm done. #DailyBudTunes
Surfing music videos on YT and here's one of my all time live rock favorites. Lou Reed, Intro/Sweet Jane, from Rock n Roll Animal. That's it, I'm toast for today. #DailyBudTunes
Got this little setup in my work space. Today's listening: Amnesty International's "Chimes of Freedom" 4 CD set of Bob Dylan covers. All-star cast. Really good. #DailyBudTunes
#DailyBudTunes, because what's happening in the real world sucks. Even sportsing is no fun.
My all-day is KCSM jazz from San Mateo CA. Recently, I got a BT adapter to stream to my vintage Sony receiver and Advent speakers. They just played Brubeck's Blue Rondo ala Turk, my favorite from Time Out. And yall. Seriously. Listening on real speakers reveals stuff you never heard. #DailyBudTunes
RIP Don Bryant.

No football for me tonight. On YT watching music. Started with French Baroque Christmas organ. On to Handel's Messiah in Sydney. Now celebrating the late great Raul Malo with the Mavericks on Tiny Desk. Bravo, all of it. #DailyBudTunes.
RIP Raul Malo. What an incredible voice he had. #DailyBudTunes
Bored with everything else on the tube, I'm surfing live music on YT. Right now, I'm missing Tom Petty. #DailyBudTunes
As long as we're fondly remembering Cropper for always-appropriate licks, a word for his colleague Al Jackson. Along with Levon and Ringo, three of the greatest pocket drummers ever. #DailyBudTunes
RIP Steve Cropper. If the only thing he had ever done was co-write Dock of the Bay with Otis, that would have been enough. But he left us SO MUCH MORE. Another Memphis Music legend gone. #DailyBudTunes
And, as long as we're talking music - and why not? - Jimmy Cliff passed today. RIP to a reggae giant. #DailyBudTunes
It's Duck Dunn's birthday. Memphis music icon. #DailyBudTunes
Saw on FB that Todd Snider passed away from whatever took him to the hospital yesterday. Yikes. #DailyBudTunes.
For those of us weaned on Stax, the Dead was quite a reach. Europe 72 finally caught my ear. Donna Godchaux was part of that. RIP. #DailyBudTunes
Browsing YT for music video, I came across Los Lobos "Native Son" and think "hey, that building looks familiar". Then the camera pans up, to where the sign still reads Sears. Oh...
#DailyBudTunes
Today is Art Pepper's 100th. His album, Meets the Rhythm Section, is one of my top 10, maybe top 5, jazz albums. Recorded with Miles' band. A winner. #DailyBudTunes
Once in a while, the algorithm is your friend. After watching 45 minutes of Bach organ, YT suggested Booker T's Tiny Desk Concert. Yeah! #DailyBudTunes
In general, I lean pretty strongly toward Monk over Evans, Miles over Chet, Sonny over Trane, etc. Soul hits me more than intellect in jazz. Despite that, or maybe because of it, Blue Rondo a la Turk just kills it for me. Intellect AND soul, exotic AND familiar, tension and release. #DailyBudTunes
It's still odd to know that both Elvis and Aretha passed on August 16. Giants, both. #DailyBudTunes
Another Memphis music giant gone. Bobby Whitlock, today. Stax, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominos. Wrote some fine songs, sang too. #DailyBudTunes
Eddie Palmieri passed yesterday. His was the first Latin record I bought, after hearing him many moons ago on the Salsa and Samba show on the late lamented WLYX. Here's his Tiny Desk concert. #DailyBudTunes, sadly.

Surfing YouTube tonight, I found a whole channel of Mons Leidvin Takle videos. He's a Norwegian composer and organist, probably unlike anything you've heard. Try his Blues Toccata to see what I mean. #DailyBudTunes
Truly sad to hear that Flaco Jimenez has passed. I never got to hear him in person, but I enjoyed every single second of his music that I heard. How often can you say that?
#DailyBudTunes
It was 70 years ago when Glenn Gould recorded the Bach Goldberg Variations. For his first time, that is. IYKYK.
#DailyBudTunes
Only in Memphis. Joe Locke at the Green Room. Sat in front of two guys who went to HS with Alex Chilton talking about what an asshole he was. Then Locke gives a heartfelt SO to the current HS jazz players in town. #DailyBudTunes
Sly has passed. A giant, he invented funk, and did it right in front of the giants of soul and rock. #DailyBudTunes
Internet radio is a wonderful thing. Today, it's Hawaiian Rainbow, a station specializing in traditional Hawaiian music. A real treat. #DailyBudTunes
My rough edges are little rougher than usual today. I've already played about 5 or 6 CDs, only to find that they aggravate me, followed quickly by ejecting them. Finally hit pay dirt. Blossom Dearie's "Give Him the Ooh La La". #DailyBudTunes
