Trouble is, both major parties are neoliberal. All of what's worst about Australia today can be traced back to John Howard, but Hawke & Keating set the foundations for him to build on.

The term "nationalisation" makes neoliberals soil their nappies. That's why I prefer "deprivatisation".

But yes, we do need to prioritise the "public good" and the "common weal".

Labor digging into taxpayers' pockets to bail out Rio Tinto again The government can't hide its frustration with Rio Tinto, but at the same time it's preparing to dip deeper into taxpayers' pockets to help the company out. Again.

Government gave Qantas $2.7 billion and we didn't even take a stake.

If a private enterprise needs public money to survive, then it should become a public enterprise. If it's important enough for us to prop it up, then it's important enough for us to control it.
