Weather radio and various strobe light and shaker attachments on the right with a still frame of an interpreter from a weather radio programming video on the left.
Have multiple ways to receive a warning by keeping your weather radio with deaf accessible attachments nearby, turning on emergency phone alerts, turning on the local news, monitoring online news, and talking with friends and family. Emergency alerts could save your life.
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are free alerts sent to your cell phone when some NWS Warnings are issued. You will only get these if you are in the danger area. Make sure these alerts are turned ON in your phone settings. https://www.weather.gov/wrn/wea
(3/5) Always have more than 1 way to get weather warnings:
📻Weather Radio that has shaker or strobe light attachments
📱Phone alerts (turn on Wireless Emergency Alerts)
📺TV
💻Trusted online sources
👨👩👧Family and Friends

Lightning safety. If you see a flash, dash inside! Lightning can strike several miles from a thunderstorm. If outside, seek inside shelter immediately. This includes vehicles. Do not seek shelter under tall objects such as trees or poles. Wait at least 30 minutes to resume activities after lightning strikes or thunder.
(2/5) 🏠🏃♀️⚡️ Lightning Safety: See a Flash, Dash Inside! If you can see lightning, you are close enough to be struck. #DeafAwarenessWeek #ILwx #INwx

Lipids can't hear… and that’s okay! Neither can Deaf people - because hearing isn’t required for thriving. 👏✨
Lipids support our brains, protect cells, and keep your body running... via their own methods of communication.

💬 Being inclusive doesn’t mean “being nice”—it means changing systems, asking questions, and respecting access needs.
🧠 Deaf and disabled people don’t need “fixing.” Society does.

It went well, considering there were some tech glitches. It's not an easy task to make sure it’s relevant to all children who have varying needs, different languages and learning levels! I hope they enjoyed it too!

It’s #DeafAwarenessWeek! I'm proud to be the first MP to ask a question in BSL & support the BSL Bill, now law. It ensures deaf people are heard in policy & practice. I’ll always use my role to push for a fair and inclusive society and I think everyone should learn a little BSL!
