I moved to NYC the same year Humans of New York started, and Dear New York was a full-circle moment in my own journey as a New Yorker, reflecting how the city and its people shape each other.

“You’ve got me as your human!” was what this lovely man said when I asked if they would be projecting Dear New York photos on the walls.

“For the first time in history, all of Grand Central is completely cleared of advertising, as 150 digital screens traditionally devoted to a mix of commercial advertising and public service announcements become part of an immersive experience showcasing the diversity and humanity of New York.”

“New York is humanity itself. Every type of person is
here: every culture, every religion, every viewpoint.
And all of us crowded onto the same narrow
sidewalks, the same one-way streets, the same
subway cars. With all of these differences packed
into so small a place, it's a miracle that this city
works. Yet somehow, despite the honking, the
screaming, the shoving, the cursing; we make it
work. Sometimes we annoy the hell out of each
other. But we also show up for each other. We take
care of each other. In these troubled times, when
the world seems to be teetering on edge, New York
is still something to celebrate. Humanity is still
something to celebrate.

Dear New York is my attempt to showcase this city
the only way I know how-through its people. And
what better canvas than the place where all of New
York comes together, Grand Central. It was a job
too large for one person. At many points it did not
seem possible. But every time I reached a dead
end, people showed up to help. People who wanted
to create something beautiful. People who
believed. People who were skeptical, but came
along for the ride anyway. In the end more than one
thousand people contributed to this work. All of
them helped to create Dear New York. All of them
are part of Dear New York. And now, by being here,
so are you.”

Honored to share a publisher with this amazing author and artist. I've been seeing the wonderful work of Brandon Stanton all over NYC, and saw his new book, #DearNewYork, at the publishing house today. Congratulations @humansofny.bsky.social on a great October release!

Love it. That section of brick wall is always such an eyesore also, I feel like it would be great for a public art installation. Maybe one similar to the #DearNewYork exhibit at GCT right now.

#DearNewYork is amazing! Every single area of grand central has street photography and quotes from New Yorkers. You must see it ❤️
