Williams & Manning were sentenced to life in prison. Manning died in prison of tuberculosis in 1927. Williams was killed four years later in an accident at the state penitentiary in Milledgeville, Georgia.

was a result of the escape attempt. Pro slavery protesters turned their anger towards abolitionists for 3 days, but there were no reported casualties.

The sale of slaves in Washington DC ended in 1850 as a result.

86 years old. A few of her former students went on to carve out successful careers of their own and became nationally known.

The school stands today as The Prudence Crandall Museum in Canterbury, CT.

She continued working in the shelter she established and was an advocate for desegregation. “I have no regrets. I didn’t need my eyes any longer. I had seen all there was to see,” she said.

She passed away in 1961 at 82.
