Qassim Suleimani, a powerful spymaster once at the head of Iran’s security machinery, the U.S. State Department announced on Saturday. The department said the niece, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, promoted “regime propaganda” while living in the United States. The government also terminated their lawful permanent resident status. General Suleimani was at the vanguard of Iran’s revolutionary generation, and shaped the creation of a Shiite axis of influence across the Middle East as a commander. The State Department also terminated the legal status of two relatives of Ali Larijani, Iran’s top national security official who was killed earlier in the war. Mr. Larijani’s daughter and her husband are no longer in the United States and are banned from entering again, the department said.
