➡️official capacity of 3,650 but overcrowding is frequent
➡️functions as reception facility but with a prison-like structure and new arrivals are held under temporary detention measures

Resistance:

➡️frequent protests and hunger strikes
➡️in October 2025, more than 30 people reportedly began a hunger strike,
demanding access to asylum procedures and humane living conditions

➡️opened in 2012, Greece’s 1st purpose-built detention camp
➡️2nd largest detention site in Greece- connected to a police training academy 15km from Athens
➡️detains men and women- asylum seekers and undocumented people

The resulting 3D models combine open-source data, e.g.satellite imagery, with testimonies and audio-visual materials available on the #DetentionLandscapes platform (an open-access database documenting systemic violence within immigration detention facilities)

Immigration detention in Greece is a shady business. In 2024/25, #DetentionLandscapes collaborated with a 3D modelling specialist Boudewyn vD and a team of volunteers to visually recreate 5 immigration detention sites.
