Charnia sp. an elongate #Rangeomorph frond from the #Ediacaran of Newfoundland, Canada in Discovery UNESCO global geopark

Happy #FossilFriday from the #Ediacaran of #DiscoveryGeopark and a beautiful little #Charnia. The fossil is actually up above the bedding plane suggesting that it might be a cast of the inside of the upper surface of the frond. That might account for the “loose”branch architecture.

A narrow sea stack in the ocean, just off the rugged coast; beside it another huge rock. The ocean stretches as far as you can see. The top of the cliffside is covered in wild weeds and bushes, low to the ground, and dried tree roots.

Visit the spectacular DiscoveryGlobalGeopark on the Bonavista Peninsula in Newfoundland to see the geological wonders that were the reason for the UNESCO designation in 2020.
