2024 Saw Highest New Climate-Related Displacements Since 2008 617 reported extreme weather events, including 152 classified as "unprecedented", displaced more than 800,000 people in 2024.

Warmer temperatures are the main driver of more frequent and intense extreme weather events like tropical #cyclones, floods, and droughts around the world, which in 2024 led to the highest number of new #displacements recorded for the past 16 years.

Furthermore, around 70% of the #Rohingya refugees who escaped #Myanmar took sanctuary in #Bangladesh, a country that has been frequently affected by #devastating #cyclones and #floods. This state of affairs only raises the possibility of secondary #displacements.
