The timing was perversely serendipitous: On March 4, the Trump administration used the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to enact 25 percent tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports, including distilled spirits. Ramifications were already occurring, from massive order cancellations to American labels being pulled from Canadian shelves.
