#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 11 (Story 2 - 7/7) - "The Rescue" - 25 Jan 1964 #DoctorWho 2/2
more of the trek from last ep, forgot it was here too - The trek has a lot to do with the slow pacing past Ep4. Always wish we saw more Thals - it took til Pertwee's era (Planet of the Daleks) for them to return.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 11 (Story 2 - 7/7) - "The Rescue" - 25 Jan 1964 #DoctorWho 1/2
The last episode of the first ever Dalek story is not bad, but I would have made the final battle a bit more exciting. Also the 1st example of the Doctor "talking" a Dalek to death. Actually, a lot of this ep had
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 10 (Story 2 - 6/7) - "The Ordeal" - 25 Jan 1964 #DoctorWho
Most of this ep I would have ditched. This is the crew and the Thals going through the jungle to get back to the Dalek city. Could have been combined w/ last ep to make this shorter. A real snoozer of an episode.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 9 (Story 2 - 5/7) - "The Expedition" - 18 Jan 1964 #DoctorWho
Most of this epi is the Tardis crew trying to get the Thals to attack the Daleks to help them recover the fluid link. It's a morality play for the most part - "What will you fight for?" Some good scenes with Ian.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 8 (Story 2 - 4/7) - "The Ambush" - 11 Jan 1964. #DoctorWho 3/3
Just one question about the scene where Daleks provided food for the Thals just to ambush them.
Why would the Daleks have stores of bog roll/toilet paper? They don't need it themselves. :)
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 8 (Story 2 - 4/7) - "The Ambush" - 11 Jan 1964. #DoctorWho 2/3
escape, there's a sequence with Ian inside a Dalek which is amusing. We also finally get an extermination in Ep4 here (Thal leader) during the episode's title sequence. The story COULD have ended here, IMO.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 8 (Story 2 - 4/7) - "The Ambush" - 11 Jan 1964. #DoctorWho 1/3
The crew escapes the Daleks on Skaro, but leave an item they need to fly the Tardis behind, so they have to go back to the city. It sets up the next few episodes, which is where the padding begins. As part of the
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 7 (Story 2 - 3/7) - "The Escape" - 4 Jan 1964 #DoctorWho
We meet the Thals, the other race on Skaro. They help the Tardis crew recover from radiation. Most of this ep is about escaping. Liked the pace of this ep; was an improvement on the last one. Another good cliffhanger.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 6 (Story 2 - 2/7) - "The Survivors" - 21 Dec 1963 #DoctorWho
The 2nd ep of the 1st Dalek story still delays showing a Dalek in full. Most of this story is about the Tardis crew being sick due to radiation. Daleks are simple captors here; a much different feel to modern Daleks.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 5 (Story 2 - 1/7) - "The Dead Planet" - 21 Dec 1963 #DoctorWho
The first ep of the first Dalek story has barely a single Dalek in it. Very heavy on the Tardis crew doing some exploration, which I really liked. The Doctor is still a jerk here, though. Banger of a cliffhanger.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 4 (Story 1) - "The Firemaker" - 15 Dec 1963 2/2 #DoctorWho
sure what I would have done differently, though. Ka & Zal's big fight a tad primitive by today's standards. Has a lead-in to the next serial at end. Also, at this point in the show's history, each ep had its own title.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 4 (Story 1) - "The Firemaker" - 15 Dec 1963 1/2
The first #DoctorWho story finishes. The crew finally escape after tricking the cavemen with the fire they wanted all this time. I really wish Ep 2-4 of this were something different, though. Never dug the cavemen angle. I'm not
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 3 (Story 1) - "The Forest of Fear" - 8 Dec 1963 #DoctorWho
The story with the cavemen continues. The bulk of this ep is the Tardis crew attempting to escape from their captivity, and not going much of anywhere. Continuing grunting from Cal & Za. Weakest of the 3 cavemen eps.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 2 (Story 1) - "The Cave of Skulls" - 30 Nov 1963. 2/2 #DoctorWho
more diferent in tone. Most of this episode is two caveman (Cal & Za) arguing over who can make fire and who is "leader". It's a simple story. I did enjoy the brief exploration part at the start of this episode.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 2 (Story 1) - "The Cave of Skulls" - 30 Nov 1963. 1/2
The 2nd episode of #DoctorWho is way different than the first. The Tardis lands in the past, and a group of cavemen who take the crew prisoner. When I watch "Unearthly Child", episodes 2-4 I usually skip because they're far
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 1 (Story 1) - "An Unearthly Child" - 23 Nov 1963 3/2
ADMIN NOTE: I originally did my Who marathon on Twitter. I've decided to go through my Who posts on my blog, clean them up as I've expanded the format since I've done these. Not with any regularity, just when I find time.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 1 (Story 1) - "An Unearthly Child" - 23 Nov 1963 2/2
a bit of a crank, borderline unlikeable in places; kidnapping Ian & Barbara. The episode is well constructed w/great pacing, and must have been something to behold in 1963. I rewatch this every 23 Nov - Stef C be damned.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 1 (Story 1) - "An Unearthly Child" - 23 Nov 1963 1/2
The first ever episode of #DoctorWho is one of the most essential. It properly sets up a new format, all the characters, and the core concept. It is probably my most watched episode of the black and white era. The Doctor is
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 898 - Reality War (Story 319b) - 31 May 2025 3/3
Belinda's ending, as it was supposed to be different, but the ending was re-shot when Gatwa decided to leave. Dobson's Rani escapes the story, Panjabi's did not. Despite ALL of that, I quite liked the ending - most did not.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 898 - Reality War (Story 319b) - 31 May 2025 2/3
want him to regenerate into THAT. I would have rather had an open ended fade to black. The story itself totally buggered the return of Omega (last seen in 83). What is here is that character in name only. They also buggered up
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 898 - Reality War (Story 319b) - 31 May 2025 1/3
Gatwa's last story - the regen was kept a secret (a shock). When I watched this the first time I came out of it saying this - "I REALLY enjoyed this except for the last 20 seconds". I didn't want him to go, but I REALLY didn't
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 897 - Wish World (Story 319) - 24 May 2025 2/2
the return of Omega. The Rani talks about past events a bit. Overall I LOVED Archie Panjabi's portrayal - more than Anita Dobson, actually. Quite liked the way disabled people are treated here - mirrors reality. Good cliffhanger.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 897 - Wish World (Story 319) - 24 May 2025 1/2
The Doctor & all his friends find themselves in a false 1950's themed reality. This is pushed by Conrad Clark (from Lucky Day) under control of The Rani who has gained the ability to "wish" things into existence. It also teases
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 896 - The Interstellar Song Contest (Story 318) - 17 May 2025 3/3
freakin' Carole Anne Ford as Susan Foreman! We saw an angry side of 15 that we hadn't seen before, which was a great development for him. And then there's Dugga Doo, the absolute ear worm by Murray Gold!
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 896 - The Interstellar Song Contest (Story 318) - 17 May 2025 2/3
worked well for me. The main villain was a bit shallow, but that didn't bother me. The background couple working at the contest really felt like an old Robert Holmes creation. Also featured a cameo return of
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 896 - The Interstellar Song Contest (Story 318) - 17 May 2025 1/3
Basically, Die Hard meets The Eurovision Song Contest. When I found out this was gonna be about the song contest, I figure I'd hate it, but I ended up loving it. There's a lot of good surrounding characters that
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 895 - The Story & The Engine (Story 317) - 10 May 2025 2/2
lost on me, it wasn't on my daughter who picked it all up on first viewing. The barbershop as a social thing was something I liked seeing. Loved the Doctor having a favorite barbershop. Overall, really great story.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 895 - The Story & The Engine (Story 317) - 10 May 2025 1/2
A HIGHLY enjoyable episode. The sci-fi parts are a bit hokey, but I ADORED the atmosphere. This story exists cuz Ncuti said he wanted a story set in Africa, so we got this in Lagos. While some of the cultural stuff was
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 48 - "Day of Reckoning" (3/6 - Serial K, Story 10) - 5 Dec 1964. #DoctorWho
The rebel crew mostly is killed freeing the Doctor and others from the Dalek ship. The survivors regroup and plot some more. Ian is trapped on Dalek ship. Doctor & Susan meet up.
#DoctorWhoMarathon Ep 894 - Lucky Day (Story 316) - 3 May 2025 3/3
@petemctighe.bsky.social is out here, I just wanted to say thanks Pete.. I LOVED this!! It's probably my second fav Doctor Lite story of all of them, and I'm not a huge fan of Doctor Lite stories.
