KEEP CANDY AWAY Many Halloween treats (like chocolate, gum, hard candy, and raisins) and their plastic wrappers are TOXIC to dogs. In fact, chocolate consumption is one of the most common ingestion issues for dogs during the holiday. Keep these sweets out of reach. If you’d like to give your dog a special Halloween treat, consider making or purchasing pet-friendly pumpkin snacks.
Are COSTUMES SAFE FOR YOUR DOG? If you choose to dress up your dog, keep costumes simple, safe, and comfortable. Avoid costumes with any dangling parts or pieces that can be chewed off. Make sure the costume does not cause overheating, impair vision, or restrict breathing. Never leave your dog unattended while they’re wearing clothing or decorative items, and remove the costume if they show signs of discomfort.
KEEP HALLOWEEN DECOR OUT OF REACH Use candles with care to prevent injury, and keep glow-in-the-dark items, battery-operated toys, and decorations out of reach to avoid ingestion.
Other important safety tips Pay attention to your dog’s body language. If they appear overwhelmed or skittish, it may be best to keep them in a crate or a quiet room away from the action. If possible, walk your dog while it’s still light out to avoid fallen candy and wrappers on sidewalks, lawns, and streets. Don’t leave your dog unattended when you’re outside, even if they’re behind a fence. If your dog ingests something that they’re not supposed to, contact a veterinarian, a veterinarian emergency center, or the Pet Poison Hotline.

Early morning airport arrival with the added benefit to read this helpful dog safety tip. Plus coffee. A great combination prior to my flight back to Chicago.
