If the pointed doorway with fleurons in the cavetto moulding (very C15), label, head stops and vacant niche above aren't lovely enough then check out the quatrefoil mesh of the protector gate #DoorwayThursday #Thursgate #IronworkThursday

The north-south divide?

The church of #StMaryRedcliffe Bristol seems to occupy a liminal space between noisy urban sprawl (north, left) and the tranquility of a green space fringed by fine old buildings. It's a strange sensation stepping from one to the other #DoorwayThursday

North porch #StMaryRedcliffe Bristol for #DoorwayThursday

Dated to early C14 the geometry and intricacy of carving is remarkable. It feels redolent of Islamic architecture and decoration or at least as seen through the lens of Southern Spain. Anyone got similar English examples?

A rather make do and mend doorway into the memorial garden, once the cloisters for the priory of #StGeorgeDunster #Somerset. The slightly wonky overthrow with twiddly bits makes up for it though #DoorwayThursday #IronworkThursday

Mouse off to bed leaving you with a mysterious #DoorInMidAir. It has the hallmarks of access to a rood loft. The problem is the doors are in the wrong place because they are aligned with the middle of the nave, not the chancel arch #StDecumanWatchet #Somerset #DoorwayThursday

A peculiar mix of freestone and sandstone gives this simple chamfered pointed arch doorway a striking and ancient look (it may well be C13 and re-set)

Th style of the 3-light windows with square heads and cusped lights is distinctly C15 and the lower of the pair is a repair anyway

There's something about a doorway. It seems more than just a portal from one space to another. Sometimes the 'other side' takes on a decided other-worldly air. Like stepping back in time. Very beautiful wave moulded pseudo-4-centred arch #RaglanCastle #Wales for #DoorwayThursday

Escape through the south gate #RaglanCastle #Wales for #DoorwayThursday

This gatehouse dates to early C15 apparently, but this solidly carved double chamfered pointed arch could be mistaken for much earlier still. especially with that 'new to Gothic' wonk to the outer order
