Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StDecumanWatchet #Somerset. The bits and pieces Mouse didn't share in the week: Two #DullButWorthy photos from the same church Mouse? You spoil us. Unusually (well Mouse not seen before) the shaft of the #StandingCross has a modern wooden cross

Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StDecumanWatchet #Somerset. The bits and pieces Mouse didn't share in the week: Socket stone and partial shaft of a medieval #StandingCross. The style of the 3-stage calvary suggest that it may be later (but then again... )

It's been a while, but at last a medieval #StandingCross here in the churchyard of #StMaryQuantoxhead #Somerset. Square base, socket stone, square prism lower, octagonal prism upper with splay at each corner, octagonal shaft with upper portion and cross lost #StandingCrossSunday

Probably the smallest remnant of a #StandingCross Mouse has ever seen. Just the socket stone and a tiny piece of the shaft. Stogursey in Somerset #StandingCrossSunday

This family memorial seems to be an homage to the adjacent C14 #StandingCross. The head is in the style (at least) of that once adorning the medieval original #StMartinFiddington #Somerset for #MemorialMonday

One for #StandingCrossSunday #StMartinFiddington #Somerset

Listed in its own right this cross (probably) dates to C14, and is contemporaneous with much of the fabric of the current church. Three stage calvary, socket stone and shaft. Cross lost in the normal way #StandingCross

Mouse often find a #StandingCross reduced to just the shaft, iconoclasts having removed the actual cross. Thankfully this one survived, bricked up in a niche apparently to protect it from such vandalism. #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #StandingCrossSunday

It's been a while but here's a little something for #StandingCrossSunday from #StMaryEastBrent #Somerset. It qualifies by virtue of its medieval four step Calvary and base with socket but the rest is... well... somewhat contrived #StandingCross

And finally from Mouse a #StandingCross for #StandingCrossSunday. Mouse needs to research this one, but it does look like a traditional high medieval cross, even down to the loss of the cross itself (you know who to blame) #StMaryWedmore #Somerset

On Mouse's newly christened #StandingCrossSunday the #StandingCross in Cheddar #Somerset.

Denoting the market place the outer battlemented enclosure is C15 indicated by 4-centred arches. Mouse suspect the actual cross is older probably C14. Like most it lost its original head

Another example of a #StandingCross, this from the last church Mouse visited #StMatthewWookey. These crosses were placed in markets, villages and churchyards largely C13 onwards. The shaft and head here renewed C19 but often the original heads were smashed during the Commonwealth

A little personal passion Mouse has never thought to share before but this is a particularly nice example. A 'standing cross'. This one is a monolithic needle inserted into a plinth with six octagonal steps at the base built on rubble stone #StandingCross Westbury-sub-Mendip
