The #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast #HuttonToBrentKnoll leg offered a fantastic array of fonts, Norman, Decorated and Perpendicular. It was a tough choice but the winning fabulous font comes from #StMaryBerrow #FontsOnFriday

Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces. Highlights of the #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast #HuttonToBrentKnoll leg that Mouse didn't get around to sharing. Mouse often bemoan the smashing of the tops of medieval crosses by iconoclasts. This is what one would have looked like #StMaryBerrow

The most terrific tower from the #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast #HuttonToBrentKnoll leg: #StMaryBerrow. This sturdy embattled tower has sat amongst the sand dunes for 700 years. A sentinel standing watch #TowerTuesday

Mouse's favourite type. Here are some more for you to enjoy; from #StMaryFiddington (one of Mouse's very favourite churches), #StMaryBerrow and #StPeterBleadon. All in the county of #Somerset #England

Plenty of choice for #MouseFavouritePhoto from #StMaryBerrow #Somerset, but this seems to capture quite how vulnerable to the elements and how exposed the church is. Seemingly against the odds St. Mary's survives after 800 years guarding the coastline

And as #FontsMeanFarewell what of the church of #StMaryBerrow #Somerset? In terms of location, diversity of architecture and points of interest, it's a gem but Mouse feels that the modern decoration and furnishing detracts. Mouse awarding another 3/5 #MusVisit๐Ÿญ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿญ

A tale of two churches through fonts, part V of V: #StMaryBerrow (left) and #StBridgetBrean (right) #Somerset for #FontsOnFriday

Likely made over a span of 50 years or so, these fonts are very similar in style. The carving to the Brean font seems to be of a finer quality though

A tale of two churches through fonts, part IV of V: #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #FontsOnFriday

Decoration (from top): band of fleurons, cusped pointed arcade, two panels per side (although these appear as daggers), round-headed hollows to stem, one per side

Fine early C15 font. Octagonal basin, roll moulded top and bottom, octagonal stem and 2-stage octagonal base upper smaller than lower both hollow moulded

And finally from Mouse, a fine pointy door in a triangular re-re arch leading to the vestry #StMaryBerrow #Somerset #AdoorableThursday

Thoroughly Victorian, of course, but fine nonetheless

Gosh Mouse, how on earth did you manage to work out the date of this door just by looking at it? #AdoorableThursday from #StMaryBerrow #Somerset

South porch (interior) #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #AdoorableThursday

C13 pointed doorway with outer chamfer and inner continuous roll moulding. Once painted or with a thin lime coating. The memorial door dates to 1942

South porch #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #AdoorableThursday

Re-set chamfered pointed doorway. There's a fighting chance it's an original. Filleted and studded door dates to C18, but wears its years well. Sadly the prison lighting detracts a little from this otherwise lovely door

North of nave #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #WindowsOnWednesday.

Probably the busiest window Mouse ever saw. It's the stained glass set in one of Mouse's favourite windows here, the square 3-light with cusped lights. Unusual pseudo-3-centred re-re arch too

South aisle #StMaryBerrow #Somerset for #WindowsOnWednesday. Very lovely and largely original 2-light window with cusped #Ogee lights and quatrefoil over. Early Perp

Mouse lucky at #StMaryBerrow #Somerset. Not just one favourite window but two and this, as pukka as a pie. Square headed 3-light with cusped pointed lights, hollow spandrels, keel moulded with a delicate label. Mesdames et Messieurs, your carriage has arrived #WindowsOnWednesday

A 3-bay roof. Trusses with crown post and struts. Cross beam on corbels. Mouse sorry, but this design combined with the shade of blue has the air of barn conversion by IKEA

East window #StMaryBerrow #Somerset on #TraceryTuesday

This C13 style 3-light window with lancet lights and intersecting tracery is set in a C15 frame. Continuous cavetto and cavetto label decorated with either ball flowers or fleurons. Small headstops to either end of the label

East window #StMaryBerrow #Somerset on #TraceryTuesday

Although clearly reset, repaired and probably taken from another church, intersecting tracery is a big Mouse favourite. It's a nice find in an area where the churches are mainly C15 this is a C13 Early English style survivor

Dull...

...well unless you have an unhealthy interest in church building. This tiny feature to the far north east of the nave widens the wall just enough to fit a rood stair in. There are no doors to the interior. Mouse wonder if the stair is intact inside #StMaryBerrow #Somerset

Between channel and church....

Solid 3-stage battlemented (some say would embattled) tower with string courses and diagonal buttresses. Largely C13 although the parapet looks like a C19 rebuild or (more likely) later addition #StMaryBerrow #Somerset #TowerTuesday
