Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces. Highlights of the #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast #HuttonToBrentKnoll leg that Mouse didn't get around to sharing. A faulty bulb gives this square cusped light a haunting quality exaggerated by the blank stare of the woman's face #StBridgetBrean
The #ScamperDownTheSomersetCoast. Leg two: #HuttonToBrentKnoll Part B: #StBridgetBrean #StMaryBerrow #StMichaelBrentKnoll
If Mouse is honest (and Mouse always is) she wasn't exactly spoiled for choice when it came to #MouseFavouritePhoto from #StBridgetBrean #Somerset, but maybe that's due more to her shonky photography than the church. So these tiles are the stand out
And as #FontsMeanFarewell what of the church of #StBridgetBrean #Somerset? Just a curiosity, without much to detain the interested #ChurchChomper but, stick your head around the door if nearby. Mouse awarding 3/5 #MusVisit🐭
The enduring allure of #ChurchDoorFittings
The south tower porch (left) and chancel doors of #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #FerrousFriday. What do you reckon for a date?
A tale of two churches through fonts, part V of V: #StMaryBerrow (left) and #StBridgetBrean (right) #Somerset for #FontsOnFriday
Likely made over a span of 50 years or so, these fonts are very similar in style. The carving to the Brean font seems to be of a finer quality though
A tale of two churches through fonts, part II of V: #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #FontsOnFriday
Decoration: Top band of fleurons, cusped pointed arcade with hollow spandrels, two panels per side, cusped pointed arcade to stem, one panel per side
A tale of two churches through fonts, part I of V: #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #FontsOnFriday
Goblet style. Late C14 to early C15. Octagonal basin, short octagonal stem on a base of a shallow pyramidal frustum extending to a shallow square prism
Time for some of Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StBridgetBrean #Somerset. The things Mouse forgot to post during the week. Unusual C15 trefoil #Piscina. South of chancel. Unusual because it has no canopy
Time for some of Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StBridgetBrean #Somerset. The things Mouse forgot to post during the week. Fine quatrefoil carved into the battlemented wall beam of the chancel
Time for some of Mouse's #FridaysBitsAndPieces from #StBridgetBrean #Somerset. The things Mouse forgot to post during the week. Tiny gilt angels stare down from the nave roof
South of chancel #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #AdoorableThursday
Ovolo Pointed doorway housing a rather stylish filleted door. Shame about the incongruous Chubb escutcheon. Mouse not entirely sure about the greenwood post and rail fencing either if she's honest (she is)
South tower #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #AdoorableThursday
The chamfered circular doorway head is supported by no more than the rubble fill of the wall. The filleted door is C19 but looks very in keeping with the date of the church
Like a living Klimt...
The light effect is accidental due to a flickering bulb, and Mouse only just noticed it... but... it's almost haunting in its beauty. The living light of St. Bridget?
#StBridgetBrean #Somerset
Modern glass in a very, very old window #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #WindowsOnWednesday
Early English single light with trefoil head now set in a segmental pointed re-re arch. Probably early C13 and so dating to the early foundation of the church
East window #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #WindowsOnWednesday
Possible Perpy perfection but equally could be a C19 later addition. Nice tracery and a familiar C15 pseudo-4-centred arch. Always nice.
A tale of two churches through timber on #Woodensday Part II of IV: Nave #StBridgetBrean #Somerset
As with the chancel, pure C19, but possibly a copy of the original. Close set open pointed trusses, collars, collar purlin bearing floriate bosses. A bit like a Tudor sauna
A tale of two churches through timber on #Woodensday Part I of IV: Chancel #StBridgetBrean #Somerset
Pure C19, but possibly a copy of the original. Open pointed trusses, common rafters with collars, purlins and bossed intersecting truss and purlin. Very neat and tidy
A little something from #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #TraceryTuesday
Typical C15 shaped window; 4-centred head with slight cavetto to the rebate. The design is pure Perp; two bold cill to head mullions separating the three cusped #Ogee lights. Dagger and mouchette(ish) tracery
A tale of two churches through tiles. Part II: #StBridgetBrean #Somerset #TilesOnTuesday
Really rather lovely and there would have been more had Mouse managed to keep her paws out of shot. Floor tile photos, notoriously tricky say Mouse, in order to excuse herself
South #StBridgetBrean #Somerset for #TowerTuesday
Curious gable ended pitched roof (some might call it a saddleback), the upper stage of the tower having been rebuilt following a lightening strike C18. Diagonal buttresses and plain square (headed), louvred bell chamber windows
Welcome to the church of #StBridgetBrean #Somerset. An old but diminutive and somehow curious looking church nestled amid seaside bungalows, holiday camps and caravan parks. No more than nave, chancel and south tower porch, this must once have been a bleak and exposed church
