a yellow gnome ornament displayed in a charity shop window stood behind two ceramic fruit arrangements. In ancient traditions these characters indicated a connection with subtle earth mysteries. On my drift around Salford I became aware of them from graffiti at Wodens Bridge to the inhabitants of Gnome Island in the river irwell. This fella came at the end of my wander and in a shop where i would find my much needed replacement water flask, it was like finding the grail after a quest to discover the secret nature of the area and seeing this only compounded the notion of this poetic potion.

Sky hooks are 2 sculptures both nearly 20m high depicting winch-hooks suspended from chains that reach into the sky. This work is based on an ages old prank that sent apprentices on fool’s errands asking for items such as sky hooks or tartan paint, or the very popular ‘long weight (wait!)’. The Artist Brian Fell having the last laugh here as they are installed as a gateway to the Trafford Park development.

We had 15-20 play today, here we are huddled in a circle to show off our shoes, soon after this we did the hokey cokey to complete the ice warmer. I then dispatched everyone off in different directions with a bingo card of sensory cues and feelings, and asked that everyone sends us a postcard from the drift that would create a collaborative artwork for the event.
