Drift ice from Russia meets the shores of Hokkaido We drove along the coast to the Shiretoko National Park in north-eastern Hokkaido, Japan. The park is closed in winter, so we stopped to see the drift ice slowly passing along. The ice originates from the Amur River in Russia, and then drifts through the Sea of Okhotsk to reach Hokkaido typically in mid January to early February before disappearing again around mid March to mid April.
