enjoying this #dungeonyear book thing. i’m not quite using it for its intended purpose or in the way it says to, but that’s okay, it‘s good at getting my wheels turning to think up ideas for a little project and encouraging me to keep at it semi-daily

I've been loving and enjoying doing #dungeonyear It's been a great experience and I'd recommend it to other creatives (maybe not necessarily a whole year, but maybe start with a week or a month). But I am now finding myself with a lot of content to process 😂 So I will pause it for a bit! Sorry ❤️

Geslare Valtare

40ish years old

Pale, brown hair. Common person that doesn’t really stand up.

Fisherman of Vadiases. His daughter wants to be an adventurer and tries spending time with them, so he pays really close attention to whatever adventurer passing by the time. Judging them.

He liked to boast the best fishes he fished in his career, often forgetting to mention that it was work of multiple people in same ship.

He’s gotten used to adventurers so he’ll hate them only if they cause problems.

Unearthed curators
- Main archeological organization in Vaelis
- In the past few years, they've gotten really interested in Vadiases
- They always pay very well for anything they believe it has even the slightest historical value
- They are often called thieves because they take as much as they can even if they don't own it

Cordeer
- A spirit of nature, protectors of olive trees
- They look like deer made of branches and vines
- They have one "selected" tree where they live. The better the tree lives, the happier the deer is
- They only really appear if their tree is endangered

Feathered sirens
- Your good old sirens (the fish ones, not the bird ones) but with a bunch of feathers in the humanoid part.
- They are mute and thus won't drag people with songs.
- They can be mostly seen under the moonlight, specially full moon and barely when new moon.
- Believed to be descendants from the harpy and the siren of the myth of Vadiases origin.

A quick sketch of a tall and wide tree in front of a stone building that is three floors tall.
"Daelroo's abode
A building close to the Daelroo tree. It is home of Jemaroot.
It's also used as a school and a nursery school for kids in town that aren't old enough to be left alone.
The school part is mostly done by Jemaroot while the nursery is done by some women and older kids that have nothing else to do."

Human, red (going white) long hair, blue eyes, pale skin with lots of freckles.

People gift her money, food, and utilities."

"Whispering Menhir
It was unearthened a few years ago by the archeology guild and the town left it standing where it was found, making a square around it.
The rock has written inscriptions that no one has managed to translate so far.
It's named "whispering" as some people claim it whispers to them in full moon nights that are rainy, but it's mostly named simply 'the menhir'."

"Fistcap tree
Common tree in the nearby city.
It's fruit, Fistcap, vaguely looks like a closed fist with the thumb between the middle and index fingers.
The fistcap is very sweet and usually added to pastries to make them sweet. it's great to combine with salty foods and nuts. It's jam is famous.
Dry fistcaps are used to make amulets against magic, specially dark magic and curses. Closing a fist to look like a fistcap is believed to be sorta effective but temporal and it was often done while saying 'The fist I show you'."

"Berakalent
Age matters not to trees.
Tree person, black bark for skin, extra long limbs, roots for feet, leaves for hair and colour changes with seasons.
No one (not even them) know why a tree became sentient and was able to move but it has an affinity for magic and a deep desire to learn more magic.
Absolutely crazy. Unknown if cuz the magic knowledge or if it's secondary effect of a tree becoming a person.
Sometimes they grow olives in their 'hair'."

Tall plant with a lot of flowers on its sides that look like thimbles and are often pink (couple rare colour are violet and red).

"Hellhaven
A plant growing in the mountain's faces that meet the forest.
Has a violet flower shaped like the external reproductive male organ.
Kids think it's funny plant cuz of shape and take the flowers. They often end up poisoned.
Heals a lot of different pains when properly used and in low quantities, but high doses are poisonous and could be deadly.
NOT a painkiller even though takes care of pain.
Harvesting without proper tools also causes poison."

"Frosted-head
Red mushroom with white markings that looks like morning frost.
Gives stomach-ache when eaten.
When mixed with milk and sugar, it's a great bug trap (kills them).
When dry it's highly hallucinogen.
The mycelium is rumoured to be part of healing potions.
The cup, when boiled and grinded, is a taste enhancer for foods, but it's also expensive as cups are small."

"Mossfog
A creature of moss and fog. It lives in northern forests and spends most of it's time living as moss.
Whenever they feel a presence, they raise from their moss patch and appear as a cloud of fog with moss patches (which is the only solid part) and take a similar shape of whatever creature they've sensed.
People from towns and cities know them as boogeymen and avoid them at all cost.
People who live and/or work with nature sees them as helpful and powerful spirits and leave offerings to them."

"Gaeka'sari
60ish, been here too long
Tiefling, tanned skin, dark green eyes, long green braided hair, rough skin but not looking old.
'Witch' of the town, lives in the forest near the mountains.
Everyone goes to her when injured or having health problems.
Swears she doesn't know magic, only what plants can do.
Everyone claims she's older than admits, that she's too old to be alive, but everyone likes her and is often nicknamed 'Aunt Gaeka'."

I'm a bit behind #dungeonyear , so, until I've caught up, I'll be sharing two entries per day! Today we talking about a monster/spirit and a witch! (Also I called the witch a tiefling for appearance but they won't be traditional tiefling lore).

Earthen boar

By some mutation, sometimes boars have much more affinity (or for some species, they develop the affinity). These rare boars are born with armour plates or rock on their body (mostly on their back, shoulders, and neck) and have reinforced tusks (and horns if their species have). Their sizes are increased, sometimes even doubled.

“Normal” boars are attracted to these rare ones and will try to go near the rare boars, most people believe its some sort of magic influence or the feeling of safety coming from these boars.

While not necessary aggressive and dangerous, people don’t like these rare boars because their effect towards other boars, that “break” farms and create boar communities of over 100 boars.

I thought a bit more about boars 🤭 These are often targets for quests and missions, poor babies. Still unable to write it on my tablet, but this method is probably easier for y’all to read 😅

Vadese Boars (name subject to change)

Bigger than the normal boars (approx 1-1.50 m at the shoulder), long strong tails (wary them, they hit like an iron whip when waved around), long tusks (in rare cases, they need to be filed or might injure the creature. They have sheep like horns that shed like antlers every 3 or so years (twice their life). Long silky fur.

Breed for meat, fur (sheared once a year, around spring time), and the occasional horns (used to drink from or making "instruments" or decorations).

They have some affinity for earth magic, as they are sometime seen moving rocks or breaking them before hitting them. But their magic isn't too strong and its only used instinctively if they feel endangered.

They live in communities of 20-30 boars and are quite affectionate unless you are someone new and look like danger. One of their main mecanism is ramming at you (like other boars) but are quire more dangerous with their horns.

Couldn't get my tablet to do today's #dungeonyear, so I just wrote it down on my computer, I'll just write it down with the rest of this journal tomorrow when I have a moment. Let's talk a bit about the boars farmed in Vadiases.

A page with worldbuilding information and two sketches, one being a ruined castle watching over a bay, and the other a fortified building. The worldbuilding information says:

"The ruined town
High atop the mountains lie the remains of an old castle of sorts.
When Vadiases was founded, the town was already in its ruined state and showed no icons that allowed people to know its previous owners.
Recently, the archeologist guild has taken interest in it and is digging it out and restoring whatever they can find.
The guild is always in need of extra hands and will pay nicely, making some townsfolk work there on their free time and sometimes getting adventurer's attention."

"The fortified mine
Halfway up the mountain, the mine has been closed for a couple centuries, but since it had some basic structures, it was reformed as an outpost against pirates and enemy military vessels.
Hasn't seen lots of action since it was turned into an outpost but its the most important military camp nearby.
The archeologist guild is constantly trying to get ownership on it as they claim it holds historical value and could be a great help to their research of old extincted civilizations."

A page with worldbuilding information and two sketches, one being a ruined castle watching over a bay, and the other a fortified building. A paper with worldbuilding information saying:
"Fuishuu
God of fire and creation
Their main altar is located next to the blacksmith
Offerings to them are a bit strange as they don't take things. People leave their tools in their altar when they are not using them as they believe Fuishuu lent them the tools and these will be blessed if people don't show a feeling of property over them.
They are represented as a wild fire, bringing warmth but also destruction that opens path to creation. Often, small representations of tools are attached to the raging fire."

A paper with worldbuilding information saying:
"Lymyshuu
Goddess of households and families.
While she has an altar in the church of the Many, it's mostly empty as people rather use small homemade altars in their houses.
Offerings to her are often doing familiar activities in front her altar, small handmade items, and drawings from children.
She's often represented as a female humanoid fully covered in house clothes (like pyjamas) and in her homemade altars, she's often surrounded of smaller figurines, one for each individual in the house, often holding or wearing something that represents the individual."

Someone convinced me to write about something cosy and a god today, so here are a few notes on the goddess of the household and family!

A paper with worldbuilding information and a couple of sketches of houses. The worldbuilding says:
"Architecture - Part 1?
When building houses in the mountains, they are often layered in a way that less carving must be done. The bottom layer is close to the streets and are often shops, workshops or storage, more rarely, they can be patios for richer people or a second house for poorer people. The top floor is a bit "behind" and closer to the mountain and is the main house. Rarely, there might be a third floor as a house expansion.
Similar structures can be found in the middle of the town (although outside the walls) but both floors are in the "same" position. Often with balconies, the bottom has stone pillars.
Bottom floors often display sotney walls while top floors' walls are painted with warm soft yellow, reds, or browns. THe bottom and top have a stripe of a darker color and doors and windows are surrounded by a "stripe" of the darker color or stonework."

A paper with information about 2 NPC.

"Blacksmith - Rameelari
- Dragonborn
- Appears 30ish years old; brown scales with darker spots in her hands, horns, and neck; bright orange eyes.
- While looks a bit scary, she wouldn't hurt a fly.
- During her free time, she likes to bake and crochet, and runs a book club.
- Doesn't have too much experience in blacksmith as she had only been a month or so with her teacher before he died; but compensates it with hard work and enthusiasm.
- Her dream of becoming a master blacksmith died with her teacher, but she's happy to help the town with basic needs items instead of forging for renowned adventurers."

"Jameloot - Tailor
- Dragonborn.
- Around 30ish years old; deep blue skin with lighter blue stripes on arms; light blue eyes with a green tint.
- Appears friendly and social but wishes nothing else than relax alone (or maybe with Rameelari)
- Calls himself a tailor because he loves doing clothes but he often works more with leather.
- Lives with Rameelari cuz claims it's cheaper (and warm) but everyone in town thinks they are love partners but Jameloot couldn't care less about relationships.
- He taught Rameelari how to bake and she taught him how to read and write."

A paper with worldbuilding information saying:

A god today, staying within the theme of fishing I guess.
