In Science this week we conducted an experiment to test which temperature of water ice would melt quickest in - cold, warm or hot? We have some excellent predictions and explanations and could explain why hot water melted ice the quickest. We then turned our results into a bar graph #DunipaceSTEM

We enjoyed our morning @dennycomputing.bsky.social and had the perfect way to start programming. We used colour-coded blocks to make a programme for a game. We then had to Shake the microbit to randomly display:
• Rock (icon)
• Paper
• Scissors

After learning all about electrical circuits these boys had the fantastic idea to make houses with real working light switches. Real transferring of skills in a new context and it was all their own idea! 💡#SuccessfulLearners #DunipaceSTEM

This week's STEM challenge for the Nurture groups was to create an electrical circuit. Once they managed to get the light bulb to turn on, the next challenge was adding a switch. The joy on their faces when it worked is clear to see! #DunipaceSTEM #FutureScientists @dunipaceprimary.bsky.social

These learners were using the sand to create walls and buildings. They had the idea of mixing water and sand to create cement. They used their mixture to lay the bricks just like a bricklayer. Later the cement was used to create a bridge and road #DunipaceSTEM #ChildLedLearning

These learners had to carefully cut the wire, then wrap the wire with string to make their bubble wand. Who made the biggest bubble? 🫧 #DunipaceSTEM

These learners investigated which detergent works best at low temperatures to remove an oily stain from cotton. The children made predictions, measured carefully and compared results, developing early scientific thinking and problem-solving skills 🧪 #DunipaceSTEM

The marble run has been very popular in the Den this week. They have enjoyed experimenting with heights, angles, and layouts to keep the marble moving. When it fails, they tweak it and try again—classic trial and error. #DunipaceSTEM

We tested conductors vs insulators by wrapping an ice cube in different materials and timing how fast it melted 🧊🔥 The slowest melt = best insulator! Wool and plastic beat metal, which conducted heat and melted the ice fastest. #DunipaceSTEM

We enjoyed following the Polar Pixel Pals lesson from @connectedfalk.bsky.social. One P7 pupil even created a Christmas Nutcracker! Very impressive! #DunipaceSTEM @mrsadonnelly.bsky.social

After investigating and exploring some materials - natural and man-made - P1 and P2 worked in a team to make their own percussion instruments, form a band and make a song. Afterwards they played their song to an audience. #DunipaceSTEM #DunipaceMusic @mrssigurdsson.bsky.social

P1 and P2 spent a lovely afternoon looking for natural materials that make sounds. They used their new instruments to create rhythms using their previous music knowledge and the phrases 'tea' 'coffee' and coca-cola' #DunipaceSTEM #DunipaceMusic @mrssigurdsson.bsky.social

P1 used their windsocks to see how windy it was. They noticed that sometimes there was a little breeze moving the crepe paper and then a big gust would come strong enough to move the whole thing. #DunipaceSTEM

P1 wanted to find out more about wind. They learned what causes wind and how wind can be measured using wind vanes and wind socks. They couldn't wait to make their very own wind socks to use to measure the wind. #DunipaceSTEM

P1 learned that it's important to protect your eyes from the sun during sunny weather. We learned that sunglasses with darker lenses and special filters can protect our eyes from harmful sunrays. Check these cool sunnies out made by P1! #DunipaceSTEM

P1 have been learning about weather. During sunny weather we investigated shadows by looking for our shadow and drawing round them. We noticed that sometimes our own shadow got in the way when drawing round our partners shadow. #DunipaceSTEM
