It was as as always a wonderful and enlighting conference with the severe convective family at #ECSS2025. Apart from that I will also miss this wonderful bike city. It was a privilege to live one week in the aimed future and fun to go by bike these days.
So thankful to have taken part in this #ecss2025 edition. So many great experts to meet, so much interesting research to look at and listen to... Utrecht was such a nice city to go around! As my first travel abroad and my first conference, not bad at all!
We’re coming to the end of a big week
of storm science as #ECSS2025 wraps up. Here Boris Blanc presents his work on interannual variability in hailstorms in Australian cities. Boris is doing a PhD with me at UNSW. An impressive audience present for the last session!
Quite under the weather but still excited to give my talk in the next session of #ECSS2025 (and then leave so I don’t get anyone sick).

⛈️ Three MeteoLux colleagues are present at #ECSS2025 this week in Utrecht 🇳🇱. Their participation is dedicated to gathering the latest scientific knowledge, and strengthening collaborations. The insights gained will directly support our mission to enhance operational forecasting of thunderstorms. /LM
Today was poster day at #ecss2025! So glad to have seen (in the little time I had, there's so much to see!) so many interesting posters and to have brought our work on the 2023 Alfonsine tornado with @francescodemartin.bsky.social!

A poster hall with people discussing their work
Had a great poster session at #ECSS2025 with plenty of fruitful discussions. Tanya Patel, who I’m supervising for a PhD, presented her work on land-ocean lightning contrast in the Australian tropics. I showed downscaling-based hail size projections for Australian cities.

On my way to #ECSS2025 in Utrecht. Together with my colleague Kathrin Wapler I will present three posters about tornadoes. One covers the upcoming paper about tornado statistics in Germany. Looking forward to meet many experts on severe weather and friends!
Traveling today to #Utrecht for #ECSS2025 ⛈️🌪. This year I am presenting 3 posters, my talk on global storm environments is on Friday 11:15 + I co-author 15 other submissions (mostly #thundeR contributions). Can't wait to see my friends and interact with the community! 🙂🍺
Es geht los. Eine Woche lang spannende Vorträge zum aktuellen Stand der #Unwetterforschung . Die #ECSS ist die wohl wichtigste europäische #Tagung zum Thema #Unwetter.

I'd say reconstructing a small tornado outbreak in Genoa is the best way to spend the hours before going to #ecss2025, don't you think?
More than 300 severe thunderstorm researchers and forecasters this weekend are on their way to the European Conference on Severe Storms #ECSS2025 in Utrecht. My journey now starts with the night train from Vienna. Looking forward to all the new findings and to both the well-known and new faces!
