Rejecting the Predicate BOLO (Be On the Lookout) •Look for framing, language, and correlations that can push the conversation, explanations, meaning in a particular direction •Watch out for thought-terminating cliches •Review terminology, conversation, emails, and documents critically •Don't be afraid to reject the predicate, the framing, the facts being put forward REQUEST, REFRAME, RESTATE, REDEFINE •Ask for more information, statements of intent, clarification •Repeat what you heard back, mirroring •gets the person to say the same thing in different words •Move beyond the headline, the big bold letters, and into the substance •Most people can't defend their position once they face some questions PIVOT •Change the narrative •If you are looking to get into the conversation, look for opportunities to provide your perspective, apply your expertise •Focus on what you agree on ~everylibraryinstitute.org
