Der Europäische Monat der Vielfalt ist eine jährliche Initiative der Europäischen Union im Mai, die das Bewusstsein für Vielfalt und Inklusion in der Arbeitswelt und Gesellschaft schärfen soll. Er wurde erstmals 2020 als "European Diversity Charters’ Month" ins Leben gerufen, anlässlich des 10-jährigen Jubiläums der Europäischen Plattform der Chartas der Vielfalt. Die Initiative baut auf dem langjährigen Engagement der EU für Gleichstellung und Nichtdiskriminierung auf und ist Teil der "Union der Gleichheit". Die nationalen Chartas der Vielfalt und ihre europäische Plattform bildeten das organisatorische Fundament. Die Europäische Kommission, insbesondere die EU-Kommissarin für Gleichheitspolitik, spielte eine treibende Rolle. Die Gründungsziele umfassen die Sensibilisierung, Förderung von Vielfalt und Inklusion, Würdigung von Bemühungen, Hervorhebung der Vorteile und Anregung zur Teilnahme. Der Monat soll als Katalysator für nachhaltige Veränderungen dienen und Vielfalt als strategische Notwendigkeit verankern. Die erste Durchführung fand aufgrund der COVID-19-Pandemie hauptsächlich virtuell statt. Der anfängliche Fokus lag auf der Würdigung der Chartas, aber der thematische Fokus wurde in den Folgejahren erweitert. Der Monat der Vielfalt soll dazu beitragen, ein faireres und gleichberechtigteres Europa zu schaffen.
