Review: Tongue Twister – Edinburgh International Children’s Festival ★★★★ Greg Sinclair’s Multilingual Quest in Kids’ Theatre Greg Sinclair’s ‘Tongue Twister’, commissioned for this year’s Imaginate Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, is a seriously avant-garde piece of kids’ theatre. It finds the award-winning, musically inclined performance artist immersed in a world of difficult-to-articulate, yet innately rhythmic phrases. Think ‘She sells seashells on the seashore…’ - Sinclair’s first tongue twister of the show.

"This is a highly polished, joyful yet considered plunge into the avant-garde." Greg Sinclair's 'Tongue Twister' dives into the sound and texture of language.

Grown Ups Explores Adult Chaos at Edinburgh Children’s Festival ★★★★ Absurdist Comedy Explores How Adults Handle Chaos Brussels-based Compagnie Barbarie have descended upon the Traverse for the 2025 Edinburgh International Children’s Festival with a laugh-out-loud study of adult problem solving. ‘Grown Ups’ follows the fortunes - well, the misfortunes - of four grown-ups going about whatever it is they do with their day. For some, it seems to involve lots of sticky tape, whilst others do curious things with extension cables, ladders, mobile phones and the occasional power tool.

"...is anyone really an adult?... And what precisely is theatre?" Compagnie Barbarie's 'Grown Ups' offers a surrealist adventure in 'adult' problem-solving.

Review: Shades of Shadows by TANGRAM Kollectiv – A Charming Children’s Festival Opener ★★★★★ German-French purveyors of all things puppetry, TANGRAM Kollectiv and their show ‘Shades of Shadows’ is the first of this year’s Imaginate Edinburgh International Children's Festival programme I’ve seen, and what a lovely introduction to this year’s festival. A two-hander (plus a two-strong technical team), the show is precisely as its title described, offering 35 minutes of wondrously shadowy fun, all of which begins in the dark.

"...35 minutes of wondrously shadowy fun, all of which begins in the dark." - Imaginate 2025 opens with TANGRAM Kollectiv's delightful 'Shades of Shadows'.
