Siobhan Miller Band: A Powerful End to Edinburgh Tradfest ★★★★★ Four-time winner of Best Singer at the Scots Trad Music Awards, Siobhan Miller, needs yet another article explaining what a superstar she is, like my cat needs more whiskers, or the world needs more billionaires. Well, too bad, because that’s what this wee review is destined tae be. A Gentle Opening: Stewart, White, and a Surprise Entrance Playing support act, regular band members, guitarist Innes White, and fiddler Charlie Stewart took the stage first with a pretty waltz, followed by a cracking reel.

"Siobhan Miller is that rarest of things: a genuine star." Her Tradfest 2025 performance was a standout, blending traditional folk with her own unique touch.

Tradfest 2025: Miwa Nagato-Apthorp, Parsisonic, Dlù Review ★★★★ The ETF Spotlight concert is always something I consider a ‘can’t miss’ event at each year’s Edinburgh Tradfest. This year proved no exception with the three-act strong line-up of singer-songwriter Miwa Nagato-Apthorp from Hawick, Ex-pat Iranian supergroup Parsisonic, and rising stars of the indie/fusion trad scene, Dlù. Miwa Nagato-Apthorp: Contemporary Ballads Rooted in Place Opening proceedings, Nagato-Apthorp quickly established a winning rapport with the audience - a skill often undervalued in the digital age.

From haunting ballads to genre-blending folk fusion, ETF Spotlight at Tradfest 2025 showcased Miwa Nagato-Apthorp, Parsisonic, and Dlù. A concert full of fresh talent!

A Beautiful Evening with Kathleen MacInnes at Tradfest 2025 ★★★★★ Introducing the gig, co-founder of Soundhouse and Edinburgh Tradfest, Douglas Robertson, described Kathleen MacInnes' gig as ‘the hottest ticket in town tonight’. Well, the packed Traverse auditorium’s rapturous response to her - and her chosen bandmates’ - 2 delightful, tuneful hours suggests he was probably right. A little of that appreciation will likely be immortalised in McInnes’ upcoming album, tracks for which she was recording live on the night.

Kathleen MacInnes wowed the crowd at Tradfest 2025 with a powerful performance alongside her talented band.

Bog Standard Review: Rachel Pugh’s Gripping Storytelling Debut at Tradfest ★★★★ Bog Standard is probably the sleeper hit of this year’s Edinburgh Tradfest. The debut offering from rookie storyteller - but award-winning journalist - Rachel Pugh plucks an episode from her earliest days in local journalism, transforming it into an engrossing adventure, laced with imagination and good humour. Of course, it helps that Rachel’s 1984 scoop concerned the discovery of…

Rachel Pugh’s debut storytelling performance at Tradfest 2025, ‘Bog Standard,’ blends history and personal narrative. A show that brings Lindow Man to life.

Leveret at Edinburgh Tradfest 2025: Folk, Spontaneity & Charm ★★★★ Leveret, consisting of well-regarded English folk trio made up of Andy Cutting (melodeon), Rob Harbron (concertina), and Sam Sweeney (fiddle), are each respected musicians in their own right. Known for their subtle, highly skilled instrumental interplay, they focus on traditional English tunes, often digging into obscure or overlooked material, as well as original compositions. What sets Leveret apart is an emphasis on spontaneity: their live sets are famously unplanned, with no setlist, relying instead on the musicians’ deep trust and musical intuition.

Leveret’s folk magic at Edinburgh Tradfest 2025: A spontaneous, crowd-pleasing performance blending traditional tunes and original compositions.
