Humans used to take #comets as omens, not as benign celestial phenomena. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1758, #HalleysComet was spotted by German astronomer #JohannGeorgPalitzsch, just when #EdmundHalley had said it would return. This was the first time a comet was predicted in advance.
