Playing an electronic wind instrument the size of a descant (soprano) recorder that's producing a completely convincing trombone sound is absolutely wild.

Decided to invest in a modelled instrument sound for the Zoot, this one a SWAM tenor trombone, and it's staggeringly good. It will take me a […]

Photograph of items on a wooden surface in front of a window. An iPad Mini is displaying the app to adjust a Zoot electronic wind instrument, one of which is lying alongside it. The Zoot is a dark grey rectangular box, approximately the dimensions of a standard 30cm ruler other than being a little over 2cm thick, with a short tubular mouthpiece. Connected to the iPad via a cable from the headphone socket is an aammoon POCKROCK guitar effects unit, a grey box roughly palm size with multiple knobs and buttons on the top, which is shaped like the body of an electric guitar, which I'm sure seemed like a great idea before everyone sobered up. Connected from there via a yellow patch cable is a slim rectangular amplifier, roughly 22cm long, in a dark brown wood-effect finish and with a front grille of multiple diamond-shaped cutouts in regular rows to give a sort of trellis effect. Everything is running from its own batteries. A green and white circular planter of cat grass is just visible, as I have rudely arranged all of this gear next to the cats' salad bar.

Playing around with guitar pedal effects on my Zoot electronic wind instrument, running through a very cheap little electronic effects box and a Flight Tiny6 ukulele amplifier. Nothing fancy, but sounds decent enough that I might look into better options […]

After a lot of searching I discovered that someone has indeed created a software synth that appears to create the same kinds of sound available to the original 1970s Lyricon electronic wind instrument. Very exciting! and a remarkably reasonable price […]

Screenshot of a PDF document, a fingering chart for a Zoot electronic wind instrument in its "Simple Fingering" configuration. Two columns of finger placement diagrams with the corresponding notes played. Orange background. Zoot logo slapped on the lower right corner to fill in a bit of space. It's not a professional production.

Patched together a fingering chart for the Zoot from screenshots of the app display. Unfortunately, only the MacOS program can output a PDF chart, so I had to bodge this one in Open Office and Paint. Not the prettiest cut and paste, but close enough for […]

I found an interesting device developed by someone in Japan and occasionally for sale in kit form, the AFUUE2R(Afue). It's an electronic wind instrument, and the designer is refreshingly honest about it:

"As you can see from the photo, the board number is printed on the surface due to a mistake […]
