Swedish government explained it was "only a dialect", not a minority language. Epic moment back in 2021 when MoP Peter Helander said a few words in #Elfdalian in Parliament. He was then asked to speak Swedish instead, but replied that Elfdalian according to the gov was a #dialect, thus Swedish.

Yes, more or less only in Älvdalen in the landscape of Dalarna, although Älvdalens socken (parish) is often mentioned. Surprisingly #Elfdalian has not been granted status as minority language (Finnish, Jiddisch, Romani chib, Sami and Meänkieli since 2000).

The state of these word-final vowels challenged me to do further research. Later Old Norse, Old Swedish, Old Gutnish & #Elfdalian confirm they resisted syncope, indicating they were long. A qualitative split between *ō/ɔ̄ >ā >a vs. õ# >ō# >o#/u# shows they had been nasalised.
