OTOH, one of my fav sci-fi/fantasy authors, #elizabethbear , who's written a *lot* of books, novelas, short stories, etc., also has a Patreon to get by because book sales apparently aren't enough despite a huge back catalog. Along with the Patreon comes access to a Discord server.
