A timeline showing my evolution in character design (specifically for Elskold) from 2017 to 2025, grouped together as: 2017: Quite simplistic and minimalistic designs with little finesse, quite chibi 2019: Anatomy and shading has improved, still quite chibi 2020: Designs are starting to become more sleek and coherent, starting to move away from Sackboy-esque proportions 2024: Designs are far more refined, skill has increased dramatically. Proportions are much more realistic, though still quite anime-like. The style is quite Pokémon-like Early 2025: Designs are more detailed than before, starting to really come into itself Late 2025: Designs are quite intricate with greater refinement and finesse. Overall compositions move away from being Pokémon-like to Genshin-like

Wanted to make a timeline for how my design philosophies and skill level in regards to Elskold character design has evolved from its inception in 2017 to now and crikey... O.O

A comic featuring Melilot, Fabales, and Jorunna. Mel is having an anxiety spiral about drawing something. Fabales is trying to comfort her but Mel is TOO in her head. Jorunna is just... there. Panel 1: Fabales has her hand on Mel's shoulder, trying to comfort her, saying, "Hey Mel, babe... Don't push yourself too hard. It's okay if it isn't perfect." Panel 2: Melilot says, "But my brain just. isn't. working!!!" Panel 3: Jorunna is thinking, saying, "Y'know, Pebble doesn't worry about being the perfect frog. She just... frogs. And that's enough." Panel 4: Jorunna continues, "The world still has Pebble in it, so it's beautiful. You're like Pebble but for art." Pebble, a small nudibranch-like frog sits very derpily like a little squidge, front and center with sparkles and shines around her. Panel 5: Mel.exe stops working. Fabales is trying SO HARD not to laugh because it's ABSURD but also... it worked??? Panel 6: Mel starts crying (happy overwhelmed crying) and now she's praising Jorunna for being so wise and hugging her. Jorunna is just "??? I was just thinking about Pebble???"

Jorunna is filled with infinite wisdom, truly 🐸

This was certainly an interesting challenge, *obviously* the most essential part of making an exoplanet — you must know what LBP would be like there. Obviously.

An equirectangular projection of an early satellite mockup for Elskold, including the polar ice caps but not being a completely accurate representation of the local climates. However, it remains quite close to what it would look like, as Elskold is a more temperate and humid planet where vast deserts like the Sahara would not occur.

Once the lyre of a famous warrior bard, now carrying on his great legacy: Fianna's musical talent is only rivaled by her vivacious spirit and confidence.

A Vevaios male ukir structural engineer from Jitu name Liem who specialises in choromancy. His most prominent catalysts are the two large mechanical gauntlets he wears.

An Epithymos male yanguanglin special ops ranger from Munur named Corvus who specialises in chemomancy. He wears chemical catalysts across his body, with a bright lantern-like chemomancy hat on his head.

Currently developing the island that Brodleif (a major city that many of Elskold's current cast lives in) resides! Thinking of placing it in the central valley

The island has an area of 53,983 km² and the elevations are exaggerated by ~6x (max is ~1,600m)

The doodles include: - A full-body doodle of Pepitya in her human form dressed as a postal courier, running with a package in hand. - A winking Pepitya head captioned "Pepitya Post - The ONLY Postal Service You Can't Rely On" - A Pepitya version of Kirara's box form. - Said box form anxiously running. - The box form on a moped that Acantha is driving.

A WIP Köppen-Geiger climate map of Elskold. All finished areas use the standardised colours of the classification system, if you want to understand what climates are what; but, simply put, nearly everywhere is some level of temperate and humid with very minimal arid or hot regions. Tropical rainforests cover much of the equatorial land, while temperate rainforests cover much of the belts above and below before the polar regions.

A sendiment height map for Elskold that displays the levels of sediment deposits in different regions.

An ocean current temperature map for Elskold. Warm currents dominate the equator going left while colder currents move to the equator from the poles against the warm ones.

An average annual rainfall map for Elskold where the more dark blue an area is, the more average annual rainfall with the darkest areas capping out at about 2,200mm rainfall. Most rainfall occurs on a belt along the equator, but currents moving against mountain ranges help redistribute rain to more polar regions.

Despite his small organic form, he uses mechanical extensions on his legs and arm-like ears. - In the bottom left corner is a salamander-like Reincarnate Hydromancer whose ousionic anchor is Armonikos. He has a very artsy aesthetic and wears a Psychomancy catalyst on his forehead.

Did some quick character design practice for Elskold with prompts that the lovely Melibot gave me! These were all interesting challenges to do :3

A reference sheet for Byb'Laio with key art, a front view, a closeup at their face, and a little doodle comic. In the top left corner, it has their name, species (Inanimate), pronouns (they/them), and place of origin (Elskold). The comic on the right consists of two drawings. The top one has Acantha with a confident expression after suggesting an idea and Byb'Laio with an inquisitive expression. Byb'Laio says, "You request that I refer to this form and other things I make like it as "Byb'Laio Tech"?" The bottom drawing continues with Byb'Laio delighted, giggling, saying, "Pffff- hahaha! A wonderful idea, indeed! I simply love it." The joke here is that "Byb'Laio Tech" sounds like the word "bibliotech", meaning "library", and they are the embodiment of Elskold's library-based economy.
