Shadows in Nevarra Pt. 1 Fandom: Dragon Age - The Veilguard Pairing- Rook & Emmrich Volkarin {Enemies to Lovers, Library Romance} TW- Trauma, anxiety, friends in the middle of an arguement, betraying a friend, mentions of slavery ; Genre: angst, hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, funny moments; Tropes: enemies to friends to lovers, library romance, hurt/comfort, angst, work place romance, mutual pining, pushing down your feelings. ~ CANON DIVERGENT BUT WILL CONTAIN GENERAL VEILGUARD & DA SPOILERS ~ Description- Az Mercar is a Shadow Dragon with a score to settle against Magisters & the Venatori as a whole. Usually his fiercely strong moral compass is a boon in his line of work, however, as the Qunari struggles to curb his impulsivity he attracts a LITTLE too much attention to the Dragons. Which results in him & his friend {also fellow Shadow Dragon} Neve getting sent as far away from Dock Town as possible for their latest mission. The pair are left to adjust to life in Nevarra as they settle into their new identities as the Necropolis' newest librarians where they'll be scoping out the staff & students to find & eliminate a suspected Venatori Ally. Simple, run of the mill Shadow Dragon stuff. So, naturally the mission goes awry, as it usually does for Az & Neve. This time their downfall comes from Az's sudden infatuation with an unreasonably handsome Necromancer who just so happens to be their biggest suspect. Word count- 2.2k

Full piece on AO3: {Link in main post}! Az Mercar was many things, but easy for any superior of his to handle has never been one of them. The amount of telling offs his bosses gave him about how "the customer is always right" & how "it's not appropriate to try and fist fight a customer just because they insulted you" during his brief stint in tavern keeping was… honestly… kind of embarrassing. And don't ask him to count how many time's he caught the Circle's Professors trying to find ways to get him expelled. Then again, you can't really blame him for that. They were racist, classist, transphobic arseholes. And sure, maybe he went a bit far with defending himself that one time but how was he to know that the stuck up Magisters' kids weren't as hard as they'd made themselves out to be? Then there's his Mother and her- oof, actually, maybe that's a story for later. He did NOT want to open that particular can of worms right now. Anyway, all this to say: it wasn't such a huge shock to Az that he'd managed to piss off the Shadow Dragons. Especially when his most recent… momentary lapse in judgement had lead to most of upper Minrathous breathing down their necks. Pls consider checking out the rest of the chapter on AO3! This is my first multi-chapter long fic so I'm super nervous! Updates will probably be slow, like monthlyish bc life is kicking my assssss!

This was done as part of "Favourite Sentence Weekday" The main text of the post is as follows: So I usually just throw my fanfics into the ether & run away to never look at them again once I'm happy with them so actually looking back over them was certainly a first for me lmfao BUT! I did quite enjoy it so, I hope whoever sees these enjoy them too! It's an Emrook Angst as per usual, starting as I meant to go on I think lmfao This is when you first meet Ren! {Az's Ex - AKA. that Magisters Son}. ~ Sentence: And with that thought, the rage had officially gnawed its way into his throat and he had to let it out before it consumed him once and for all. Explanation: From Would You Fall In Love With Me Again {Linked in Post} - Takes place at the end of Cage for Gods, Emmrich & Az reunite but realise Rook seems a LOT older than he should. Panic & Angst ensues bc it's my writing so of course it does lmfao This piece includes my FAVOURITE way I've ever written an emotional scene - Az is GOIN THROUGH IT all alone hehe :'3 {1/3}

The Segment of the WIP is as follows: "You disappeared Dearest… Each hour would have been another hour I lost, another I couldn't find-" Emmrich paused momentarily, taking a second to compose himself. " I couldn't allow that to happen." "Em-" "No." The necromancer stated, frustration lacing his tone and negating any effort he made to stay composed. "Any second wasted, was to be another second you were suffering; another you were trapped in- How could you dare say I should have rested more?" Emmrich stopped in his tracks, cut off by a noise that was best described as a mixture of heartbroken sob & a pathetic laugh in spite of himself. "Even with all that… all the meals skipped… nights of sleep missed," Emmrich's hand reached up, covering part of his face as the tips of his hair splayed out between his digits. "Spirits Az… I still wasn't fast enough."
