Explanation: From Would You Fall In Love With Me Again {Linked in Post} - Takes place at the end of Cage for Gods, Emmrich & Az reunite but realise Rook seems a LOT older than he should. Panic & Angst ensues bc it's my writing so of course it does lmfao This piece includes my FAVOURITE way I've ever written an emotional scene - Az is GOIN THROUGH IT all alone hehe :'3 {1/3}

This is from one of my rare silly fluff pieces where Az helps Harding break into Taash's room to set up a surprise, shenanegans & Harding x Taash gayness ensues :3 ~ Sentence: "She's growling at us all actually," Az interjected, though the scowl Emmrich shot back made him quickly realise that he wasn't quite making the best case he could here. Explanation: From Trust & Fish Sticks {Linked in Post} - A silly piece where Rook Mercar adopts the dog that's always barking outside of the Dock Town dog cages :3 I just like watching Az accidentally snarking himself into deeper shit & Emmrich being super done with his bs honestly lmfao {2/3}

The Segment of the WIP is as follows: "You disappeared Dearest… Each hour would have been another hour I lost, another I couldn't find-" Emmrich paused momentarily, taking a second to compose himself. " I couldn't allow that to happen." "Em-" "No." The necromancer stated, frustration lacing his tone and negating any effort he made to stay composed. "Any second wasted, was to be another second you were suffering; another you were trapped in- How could you dare say I should have rested more?" Emmrich stopped in his tracks, cut off by a noise that was best described as a mixture of heartbroken sob & a pathetic laugh in spite of himself. "Even with all that… all the meals skipped… nights of sleep missed," Emmrich's hand reached up, covering part of his face as the tips of his hair splayed out between his digits. "Spirits Az… I still wasn't fast enough."

The Empress: What does family mean for Rook? So I think the best way to describe what family mean's for Az is with the word "Bittersweet". He had a very not good upbringing, he loved his dad a lot and his dad loved him, he cared for his mum and his mum *did* care for him but she also... wasn't the best person tbh. His parents put him through a lot, keeping someone locked away for the first like 13 years of their lives will really do a number on them. There's a strong frustration & resentment that grows within them no matter how nice you are or how much they care about you. His dad was great but, not home much due to military stuff... and his mum was home frequently as a SAHM but she didn't originally want to be a mother and that kind of showed as Rook grew up. There were lots of wonderful moments with his mother {she introduced him to {continues next image}

Answer {continued}: of wonderful moments with his mother {she introduced him to alchemy and to gardening for example} but as he grew up more and more of those turned into awful moments as her stress revealed more of her buried frustration at not having wanted a kid and that in turn lead to LOTS of fighting, screaming matches, mean and awful shit said that you shouldn't say to a child. Then the one adult who was around more often than his father, and was nice to him died and well, the circumstances around that... and then what little he had of family was gone after a massive fight not long after and well... yeesh trauma truly. So for a while, Family meant shit to Rook. He hated the phrase, it mostly made him feel bitter and upset that he never really had a good one. BUT when he met the lighthouse crew. Taash felt like a younger sibling {Qunari, Trans & Queer? With Anger & Family Issues? Like a mini Rook truly!}, Davrin felt like a long lost friend, Neve was like a super cool older sister, everyone else felt like cousins and it all just created such a warm atmosphere that Rook couldn't fully hate the word Family anymore. Especially when Emmrich and Manfred came into the picture, then he didn't mind having a lil family with his paramour and his new skelly son either :3 So yeah, lotsa bittersweet feelings about it! {Continues next Image}

Answer {Continued} The Emperor: What does Rook's leadership style look like? A very "Motivational Speaker Whose Winging It" style. He is holding on with nothing but hopes & wishes honestly & he is just having an internal breakdown everytime they have to try a different strat for the 10th time on a mission. He does support everyone as much as he can though, and even though it's obvs he's winging a lot of it he doesn't let them see he's freaking tf out internally! He was kept home for ages in a very weird family situation, forced to go the Circle when his magic came in, then had a wonderfully fucked up relationship with a Magisters son that ruined him for a while, then had a falling out with family after a super traumatic incident, then worked with the Shadow Dragons while living on the street for a while till Tarquin dragged him into a roommate situation for a while when Tarquin found out about the homeless thing, then they had an awkward situationship, then they had the whole well, Nessus mission... and then boom Veilguard! Happy to clarify anything if you have any questions as i know that was a VERY condensed summary that definitely glossed over some stuff hehe!

Az is a dagger & orb mage! He *loves* AOE attacks, and uses a mixture of fire & electric attacks! Originally he was purely just a fight to get out as quick as possible type of guy. And he still is to an extent but after... well everything, especially after the fade prison, he does take much more joy in combat. It's a real great aggression reliever.
